MARTIN, Tenn. – Coming off a highly successful debut season, the University of Tennessee at Martin STUNT team starts the 2025 campaign with four games this weekend in Lexington, Ky.
The 2025 season begins in the same city as the 2024 campaign ended as the Skyhawks notched their first-ever postseason victory in Lexington at the Division I National Championship. UT Martin finished with a 5-8 record and was just one game shy of competing for a national title last season, placing third nationally in the Division I ranks.
This spring, the Skyhawks are part of the seven-team Mid America West Conference and the regular season schedule has increased to a dozen games (compared to 10 in 2024). UT Martin takes on conference rivals Trevecca Nazarene (Feb. 1) and defending national runner-up Kentucky (Feb. 1) on the opening day of the 2025 season before battling Ashland and MAWC foe Mercyhurst on Feb. 2.
A near six-week break follows before the Skyhawks resume competition with an exciting home tournament on March 15-16. UT Martin will host league rival Central Arkansas and Centenary on Day 1 of the event before MAWC foes Missouri State and Northern Kentucky travel to Skyhawk Fieldhouse on Day 2.
UT Martin then travels to Nashville, Tenn. for a four-game tournament, taking on four-time defending national champion California Baptist and conference rival Central Arkansas on March 27. The Skyhawks wrap up the regular season the following day against Purdue Northwest and Quincy.
The 2025 MAWC Tournament will be held on April 4-5 in Lexington, Ky. while the postseason continues with the STUNT Division I National Championship in Nashville, Tenn. on April 24-27.
Head coach Amber Minton and assistant coach Mindy Halverson welcome back 15 returners from last season's squad, including 2024 College STUNT Coaches Association All-Americans Emily Hartley (first team, CSCA Athlete of the Year nominee), Emmy Melton (first team), Addison Cary (second team), Jade Reed (second team), Alexa Stock (honorable mention) and Ashley Myles (honorable mention). The returning duo of Kaity Mistretta (building specialist) and Braylee Smith (tumbling specialist) were also nominated for prestigious CSCA awards a year ago.
Last season, Hartley led UT Martin in scoring eight times out of 13 opportunities while Emily Wood, Mistretta, Myles and Reed also topped the Skyhawks in points in one game apiece.
A dozen newcomers are welcomed into the fold for 2025 as the group of freshmen hail from Tennessee (10), Illinois (1) and Indiana (1).
A total of 74 collegiate teams (21 in Division I) are taking part in STUNT this spring with nine more programs set to debut in 2026. STUNT is a female sport that incorporates skills derived from cheerleading. Each game is broken down into partner stunts (first quarter), pyramids and tosses (second quarter), jumps and tumbling (third quarter) and a team routine (fourth quarter).
