Cheer & STUNT Recruitment
Skyhawk Cheerleading and STUNT Recruitment
Thank you so much for showing an interest in us. We’re excited to get the recruitment process started with you!
UT Martin has two programs:
1. Game Day Cheer- Cheerleaders attend home football and basketball games as well as community events such as parades, clinics, etc. Select team members will travel to the Ohio Valley Conference and March Madness Tournaments if our men's or women's basketball team qualifies. Our cheer team does not compete, but they are still important! Our cheerleaders bring energy and provide extra entertainment to the games. Tumbling is not required, but having at least a standing back handspring is highly encouraged.
2. STUNT - We are a competitive NCAA DI team. Regular competition season runs from February to early May with Nationals being held in April. We have made a nationals appearance during the past 2 seasons and plan to continue that tradition! One thing we love about STUNT is that it allows more athletes an opportunity to compete at a collegiate level. Athletes can be recruited specifically for their stunting abilities or their tumbling abilities. You don’t have to be strong in both to become a member of the team! If you are unfamiliar with STUNT, visiting stuntthesport.org as well as our social media sites is helpful. We have an informational video pinned on instagram at utm_stunt.
At this time, most of our athletes participate in both of our programs, but we are in the process of creating separate teams while continuing to allow some athletes to do both. Be sure to let us know if you are interested in cheer only, STUNT only, or both. Either way, the recruitment process is the same.
Recruitment for Cheer and STUNT
We are always looking for athletes who have a desire to be the best athlete, teammate, and student that they can be. We are currently recruiting cheerleaders and STUNT team members for our 2026-2027 season as well as looking for prospects for our 2027-2028 season.
If this time frame applies to you need to:
· Complete our recruitment application if you have not already done so. https://tr.ee/D2Wp7fxNZF
· Submit 2 recommendation letters to UTMCheerandSTUNT@gmail.com One of these needs to be from a current or former coach.
· Submit videos highlighting your skills to the above email. We want to see your best jumps, tumbling, and stunting. For cheer, we also want a video of you doing the UT Martin Fight Song. (The fight song video is attached to this email and is also taught at our clinics.)
· To be eligible for STUNT, you must also have an NCAA ID number, which you can register for on the NCAA Eligibility Center website. If you have already completed the recruitment form but did not have an NCAA ID, please email it to us as soon as you get it.
· If you have not already applied to UTM, that application needs to be completed ASAP. We highly recommend that you schedule a campus tour through our admissions office. The admissions office phone number is 731-881-7020. Also make sure you complete your FAFSA form for financial aid and include UT Martin’s code. This will automatically make you a candidate for the many academic scholarships that UT Martin awards each year.
· While attending one of our clinics or open gyms is not mandatory for you to be recruited, it does give you the opportunity to learn more about our programs as well as give us an opportunity to get to know you and see more of what you can do in person. Clinics
Becoming a UTM cheerleader and/or STUNT team member is a big responsibility, but it also provides many benefits! We are here to help with scheduling/time management, housing, financial aid opportunities, and many other things that you will face as you transition from high school to college. We have a great team of people in our athletics department who are committed to helping our athletes succeed not only during their time with us but to also help prepare them for life after college.
· All of our athletes have access to early registration with the help of an athletic academics advisor, free tutoring, and a student athletic lounge which is stocked with basic school supplies and provides a quiet place to study, use computers, printers, copy machines, etc.
· Our athletes also have access to athletic trainers as well as a strength and conditioning coach.
· With STUNT being an NCAA sport, we have special housing opportunities that we can also offer in limited quantities.
· We have a limited amount of scholarships to give out. The best way to ensure that you receive a scholarship is to complete the recruitment process and get committed to our team ASAP.
· There are no out-of-pocket expenses for our team. We cover the cost of practice wear, shoes, uniforms, team travel, etc.
Why should you choose UT Martin?
· With over 100 areas of study taught by world-class faculty, UT Martin lets you choose your path to thrive.
· Our students come from all over the world and all walks of life. We're a diverse community with a place for everyone.
· We offer one of the lowest costs of attendance in Tennessee and award more than $43 million in scholarships and grants each year.
We would love for you to attend one of our clinics and/or a Skyhawks football, basketball, or STUNT game to see what UTM and our program is all about! Please be sure to let us know if you are attending any of these events. We can get a limited number of tickets for you. Our phone numbers are included in this email so that you can contact us. We can also be reached through email or messages on social media. Please reach out to us with any questions that you or your family may have.
