NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Another Mid America West Conference victory is in the books for the University of Tennessee at Martin STUNT program as the Skyhawks posted a 23-1 triumph over Central Arkansas this evening. Earlier in the day, UT Martin started the tournament hosted by Trevecca Nazarene with a 24-0 setback to four-time defending national champion California Baptist.
The Skyhawks are now 6-4 overall and 5-2 in the MAWC standings, officially passing the win total (five) from last year's inaugural season today.
UT Martin began its day with a matchup against California Baptist, who improved to 96-0 in the program's history. The Lancers were able to claim all four points awarded in the first quarter (partner stunts), second quarter (pyramids and tosses) and third quarter (jumps and tumbling). In the team routine final quarter, California Baptist took all 12 points that were assigned by the judges. Emily Hartley and Addison Cary led the way for the Skyhawks, competing in a team-best 17 events apiece during the game.
It was a different story in UT Martin's second game of the day as the Skyhawks nearly reversed their score from this afternoon. UT Martin won all four points in the partner stunts opening quarter and followed that with another 4-0 sweep in the pyramids and tosses second quarter. The Skyhawks stretched their lead out to 12-0 after a dominant third quarter involving jumps and tumbling. UT Martin ended strong, winning 11 of the dozen points rewarded in the final quarter (team routine). The Skyhawks were paced by Cary's 18 points while Hartley (17), Ashley Myles (14), Ali Workman (14), Kaity Mistretta (13), Emily Wood (13), CeCelia Dollison (12), Braylee Smith (12), Jade Reed (12), Livia Comuzie (11) and Emma Phelps (10) also accounted for double-digit points.
UT Martin completes its regular season tomorrow, staying in Nashville to take on Purdue Northwest (10:20 a.m.) and Quincy (5:20 p.m.).
