MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin's school-record winning streak was extended to five games today after the Skyhawk STUNT squad reeled off two more victories, defeating Missouri State (15-12) and Northern Kentucky (22-0).
With the results, UT Martin capped off a perfect 4-0 homestand and sent Claudia Colston, Kaity Mistretta and Ashley Myles off in style with a Senior Day ceremony at the conclusion of the Northern Kentucky game – the biggest win by scoring margin in the two-year history of the program.
In their tightest game of the weekend tournament, the Skyhawks prevailed over a gritty Missouri State squad this morning. UT Martin led by a 3-2 margin after the first quarter (partner stunts) and opened up a 7-3 halftime advantage following the second quarter of pyramids and tosses. The score grew closer after the third quarter (jumps and tumbling) as the Skyhawks held an 8-6 edge. In the team routine fourth quarter, UT Martin outscored the Bears by a 7-6 margin to claim the victory.
Emily Hartley led the Skyhawks with 12 points and was followed by Mistretta (11), Addison Cary (10) and Emily Wood (10).
UT Martin was dominant from start to finish against Northern Kentucky, producing the fourth shutout in school history and second in as many days. The Skyhawks led 3-0 through the partner stunts first quarter and held a 7-0 halftime lead with a perfect second quarter (pyramids and tosses). UT Martin pieced together another perfect third quarter of jumps and tumbling to lead 11-0 heading into the final period. The Skyhawks then doubled up their score with 11 points in the team routine.
Myles and Cary shared the team lead with 18 points apiece and was followed closely by 16 points each from Hartley and CeCelia Dollison. Mistretta and Ali Workman also chipped in 15 points apiece while Wood (14), Braylee Smith (14), Jade Reed (13), Natalie King (11), Leah Newberry (11) and Kacey Reedy (10) all scored in double figures for UT Martin.
The Skyhawks wrap up the regular season later this month, making a quick trip to Nashville to take on California Baptist, Central Arkansas, Purdue Northwest and Quincy on March 27-28.
