MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin STUNT program has qualified for the postseason in its inaugural season as the Skyhawks are one of four teams to compete in the Division I National Championship this weekend in Lexington, Ky.
The two-day, double-elimination tournament will take place at the Clive M. Beck Center on the campus of Transylvania University. UT Martin is joined in the field by California Baptist, Central Arkansas and event host Kentucky.
The Skyhawks are guaranteed to play two games on Saturday, April 13, making their official postseason debut at 10 a.m. CT against Kentucky. With a win, UT Martin would play the victor of the California Baptist/Central Arkansas game at 12:30 p.m. CT. If the Skyhawks fall in their opening-round contest, they will face the loser of the California Baptist/Central Arkansas matchup at 1:45 p.m. CT.
Three more games are on tap for Sunday, April 14 as times are set for 11 a.m., 2 p.m. and an "if necessary" outing at approximately 3:15 p.m.
UT Martin went 4-6 in its first official season under head coach Amber Minton, which included a 2-2 record against the Division I National Championship field. The Skyhawks were a perfect 2-0 against Central Arkansas (20-6 win in St. Louis, Mo. on March 3, 17-4 victory in Nashville, Tenn. on March 16) while falling in their lone matchups against Kentucky (lost 23-7 at home on March 9) and California Baptist (lost 24-0 in Nashville, Tenn. on March 15).
Four separate sophomores led UT Martin in scoring in every game this spring. Emily Hartley paced the Skyhawks six times in 10 opportunities as the Murfreesboro, Tenn. native notched double-digits in the scoring column in six different games with a season-high of 18 points in the March 3 win over Central Arkansas. Violet Gillilan also guided UT Martin in scoring twice while Emily Wood and Jade Reed topped the Skyhawks in points in one game each.
