UT MARTIN STUNT BEGINS INAUGURAL SEASON WITH A PAIR OF GAMES TOMORROW

MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin STUNT team will make its official debut this weekend as the Skyhawks square off against Davenport and Central Arkansas on Sunday, March 3 in St. Louis, Mo.
The pair of games will cap off a 33-month journey as UT Martin announced its plans to field a competitive STUNT program pending NCAA certification back in June 2021. The Skyhawks competed in eight exhibitions last season – winning six of those – before the NCAA approved STUNT at the Division I level in August 2023.
UT Martin is one of 57 colleges or universities competing in STUNT this spring while 17 additional members will join the ranks in 2025. The Skyhawks are one of 14 active NCAA Division I schools this season, joining Arizona State, Cal Baptist, Cal Poly, Cal State Bakersfield, Central Arkansas, Central Michigan, Grand Canyon, Kentucky, Michigan State, Oklahoma State, St. Mary's, Texas and UC Davis. UT Martin is one of five members of the Mid America West Conference alongside Davenport, Maryville, Central Arkansas and Kentucky.
Head coach Amber Minton and assistant Mindy Halverson return 11 players from last season's trial run. That list includes Claudia Colston, Lexi Felty, Violet Gillilan, Emily Hartley, Emmy Melton, Kaity Mistretta, Ashley Myles, Jade Reed, Emma Grace Thomas, Emily Wilcher and Emily Wood.
Chase Aaron, Addison Cary, Ellen Colston, Lexi Harris, Natalie King, Jayln Monroe, Leah Newberry, Braylee Smith, Alexa Stock and Karie Sue Walker make up the 10 newcomers who will make their Skyhawk debuts in 2024.
STUNT is an exciting head-to-head game between two teams that incorporates the technical and athletic skills derived from cheerleading. The teams compete against each other in a four-quarter game, executing skills-based routines in various categories – partner stunts (first quarter), jumps and tumbling (second quarter), pyramids and tosses (third quarter) and team routines (fourth quarter).
UT Martin is one of eight teams who will travel to the Simon Athletic Center on the campus of Maryville University this weekend. The Skyhawks' matchup against Davenport is set for 11:30 a.m. on Sunday before the contest against Central Arkansas is scheduled for 3 p.m.
