
SKYHAWK SOFTBALL OPENS OVC PLAY AT BETTYE GILES FIELD THIS WEEKEND AGAINST MURRAY STATE

The University of Tennessee at Martin softball team will make its long-awaited home debut at Bettye Giles Field this weekend with the start of Ohio Valley Conference play when hosting Murray State for a three-game series beginning with a single game on Friday, March 5 at 4 p.m. before a doubleheader on Saturday, March 6 beginning at 1 p.m.
The Skyhawks enter the weekend boasting a 6-2 mark on the young campaign. UT Martin is earnestly looking forward to opening OVC play for the 2021 season after the entire 2020 conference slate was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic while it has been 673 days since a league contest has been played on Bettye Giles Field.
UT Martin boasts an offense with a team batting average of .324 on the season while seven batter are hitting over .300 on the year. Freshman Kaci Fuller leads the team offensive with a .414 batting average while scoring six runs and tallying nine RBIs to go with five stolen bases. Sophomore Kaitlyn Kelley is coming off a huge week where she posted a .417 batting average while hitting home runs in three straight contests at the Tennessee Invitational.
The Skyhawk pitching staff is led by senior Hannah Ridolfi with a 2-0 record with a 1.95 ERA in 14.1 innings of work. Sophomore Erin Gallagher also has a pair of wins on the year while leading the team with 18.0 innings of work and 19 strikeouts in four starts.
Murray State enters the weekend with an overall record of 3-11. Lily Fischer leads the team offensively with a .324 batting average and three doubles while Sierra Gilmore has tallied two home runs and five RBIs. The Racers pitching staff is anchored by the duo of Hannah James (2-5, 2.43 ERA) and Jenna Veber (1-5, 2.25 ERA).
Heading into the series, the two programs have met 31 times dating back to 2010 with Murray State holding a narrow 16-15 advantage.
