MARTIN, Tenn. – University of Tennessee at Martin head softball coach Chelsea Farmer has announced the signing of Sydney Carroll for the 2027 season. Carroll joins the Skyhawks after spending one season at Mississippi State, which advanced to the Women's College World Series for the first time in program history this season.
Carroll, a 6-2 redshirt freshman from Chelsea, Alabama, comes to UT Martin with four years of eligibility remaining and will play in the infield and pitch.
"It's all about finding the right fit and I think from the moment Sydney specified her desires for her future, we both knew that being a Skyhawk was her perfect fit," said Farmer of the signing.
"With the eligibility I have remaining, I was looking for a program where my skills, work ethic and position would be a great fit and I found that with Coach Farmer and the Skyhawks," said Carroll. "The combination of a competitive softball program and a strong educational path made UT Martin stand out to me."
Carroll was a standout player for Chelsea High School and played on the varsity team beginning in eighth grade. She was a three-time Hoover Sun All-Metro selection, earning first-team accolades in both her junior and senior seasons. She led her team in home runs for three seasons and was an ASWA All-State honoree in 2024.
Carroll joins a 2027 Skyhawk squad that includes all 13 eligible returners from UT Martin's outstanding 2026 campaign, as well as a crop of 12 incoming freshmen.
