MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin men's basketball team will look to continue its winning ways in the all-time series against SIUE when the two Ohio Valley Conference foes square off on Thursday, Feb. 27. The game – which is a "Black Out" at the Kathleen and Tom Elam Center – is set to begin at 7:30 p.m. (as the back end of a doubleheader also featuring a women's basketball game).
The Skyhawks (8-19, 4-12 OVC) lead the all-time series against the Cougars by a 14-8 margin and have won eight of the nine meetings since 2016. UT Martin's lone setback during that span was a 70-69 home loss on Feb. 15, 2018.
Earlier this season in Edwardsville, the Skyhawks struck for a 79-76 road win against SIUE. UT Martin overcame a 40-33 halftime deficit by sinking 60.9 percent (14-of-23, including six 3-pointers) of its shot attempts in the final 20 minutes. Quintin Dove (18 points), Parker Stewart (16 points, seven assists), Ja'Darius Harris (career-best 16 points) and Miles Thomas (14 points) paced the Skyhawks.
UT Martin has been hit with a rash of injuries lately as the Skyhawks were down to eight players who dressed out in last Saturday's road loss at Jacksonville State. Dove (game-high 26 points) and Derek Hawthorne, Jr. (20 points, game-highs of six rebounds and five assists) provided the majority of UT Martin's offensive firepower but the Skyhawks were limited to a season-low 58 points.
The Cougars (7-22, 4-12 OVC) are coming off a gut-wrenching 59-58 home setback to OVC leader Murray State on Saturday. SIUE trailed by 17 points at the halftime break but stormed back to lead by five points with 1:29 to go before the Racers hit a go-ahead three-pointer with 10 seconds remaining for the eventual game-winner.
In the Jan. 25 meeting against UT Martin, freshman Shamar Wright was responsible for team-highs of 18 points and five rebounds for the Cougars. Mike Adewunmi (15 points), Brandon Jackson (14) and Cam Williams (10) also scored in double figures for SIUE, who leads the OVC in three-point field goal percentage defense (.301) in league play.
ESPN+ will provide a live stream of the contest while Chris Brinkley (play-by-play) and Eddie Suiter (color) will provide radio analysis locally on WCMT 1410 AM/100.5 FM. Those links - in addition to a link to live stats - can be found at the top of the webpage.
