MARTIN, Tenn. – The 2026-27 University of Tennessee at Martin men's basketball season officially begins tomorrow with a road trip to New Orleans, La. as the Skyhawks take on Tulane out of the American Conference. Tipoff from the Avron F. Fogelman Arena in the Devlin Fieldhouse is set for 7 p.m. on ESPN+.
UT Martin will look to make it three season-opening road wins in a row under head coach Jeremy Shulman as the Skyhawks struck for such victories at UNLV (86-81 on Nov. 4, 2025) and Illinois State (67-65 on Nov. 4, 2024). Prior to Shulman's arrival ahead of the 2024-25 campaign, UT Martin had not won a season opener on the road since Nov. 22, 2003 (0-13 record over that stretch).
The sophomore duo of Filip Petkovski (30 games, 28 starts) and Vladimir Khryapa (30 games, three starts) are the only two returning Skyhawks who saw playing time during a school record 22-win season in 2025-26. Davi Remagen and Kaan Onat were identified as Ohio Valley Conference Players to Watch and are two of 14 newcomers who will make their UT Martin debuts in 2026-27.
Of the 14 newcomers, the Skyhawk roster includes a program record 10 freshmen (second-most in NCAA Division I men's hoops behind only Navy). For the third consecutive season, UT Martin owns the most international student-athletes in NCAA Division I men's basketball as its 14 foreign-born players topped St. John's (12) for that title.
The Green Wave returns five players from last season's 18-15 squad, including one starter (Tyler Ringgold and his 9.4 points per game scoring average). Six of Tulane's 10 newcomers are NCAA Division I transfers, including Krystian Lewis - who tossed in a game-high 27 points in the Green Waves' 108-97 exhibition triumph over Spring Hill on Wednesday evening. Ringgold (22 points, game-high 13 rebounds) and Ryan Blount (14 points, 10 rebounds) also amassed double-doubles for Tulane, who shot 86 percent (43-of-50) from the charity stripe.
