MARTIN, Tenn. – University of Tennessee at Martin senior forward Quintin Dove put on one of the best single-game performances in recent memory this evening but the visiting SIUE Cougars claimed a 90-75 win at the Kathleen and Tom Elam Center.
Dove amassed 26 points and a career-best 20 rebounds, becoming just the second Skyhawk to record a 20-20 outing in the school's Division I Era, joining Javier Martinez (22 points, 21 rebounds at Tennessee Tech on Feb. 1, 2017). Dove becomes the 14th Division I player to tally a 20-20 game in 2019-20 and equals George Washington's Arnaldo Toro for the most offensive rebounds (13) in a single game this season.
Joining his senior teammate in double figures scoring was Derek Hawthorne, Jr., who pumped in 22 points to go along with nine rebounds, two steals and two blocks for UT Martin (8-20, 4-13 Ohio Valley Conference).
SIUE (8-22, 5-12 OVC) accumulated 27 assists on 33 made field goals, placing five scorers in double figures in the scoring column. Brandon Jackson had 21 points while Shamar Wright (13), Zeke Moore (13), Kenyon Duling (11) and Tyresse Williford (10) also provided effective offensive performances.
The momentum was established in the first half as the Skyhawks shot 23.1 percent (9-of-39) and the Cougars made 57.1 percent (20-of-35) of their field goal tries in the opening 20 minutes. SIUE led 23-6 a little under midway through the opening half and wouldn't get any closer than 13 points for the remainder of the contest as the Cougars took a 50-29 lead at the break.
Dove had already nabbed his 11th career double-double (13 points, 12 rebounds) at the half while Moore's nine points paced SIUE.
UT Martin faced its biggest deficit of the evening (58-33) with 15:42 remaining but the Hawthorne and Dove tandem combined to score the next 13 Skyhawk points. A Miles Thomas steal and dunk with a little over three minutes left to play capped off a 17-5 UT Martin surge and pulled the Skyhawks within 13 points at 80-67. However, UT Martin could not fully dig itself out of the hole.
The Skyhawks' 2019-20 season finale is set for Saturday, Feb. 29 against Southeast Missouri at 4 p.m. UT Martin will honor Dove and Hawthorne in a brief pregame ceremony as part of Senior Day festivities.
