MARTIN, Tenn. – The fifth annual Carpenter/Chaney Classic, co-hosted by the University of Tennessee at Martin and Morehead State University, is set for Saturday, April 11 at Houston Oaks Golf Course in Paris, Ky.
Named after legendary Ohio Valley Conference coaches Jerry Carpenter (2002-20 at UT Martin) and the late Dr. Rex Chaney (1976-2014 at Morehead State), the Carpenter/Chaney Classic will take place in the Bluegrass State for the third consecutive year. The Skyhawks are 7-4 all-time in the event, which has taken place in Paducah, Ky. (2025 and 2024), Mims, Fla. (2023) and Tunica, Miss. (2022, a UT Martin victory).
The Houston Oaks Golf Course is a par-72 course that plays at 6,854 yards. Ranked by Golf Advisor as a top-five golf course in Kentucky, Houston Oaks was designed by Jack Ridge and opened in 1996.
The Skyhawks join Bellarmine and two teams from Morehead State in this year's Carpenter/Chaney Classic field. UT Martin will square off against Morehead State's "B" team in the first round, which will tee off Hole No. 1 from 7-8:30 CT. The Skyhawks will then face either Bellarmine or Morehead State's "A" team in the second and final round, which will also begin on Hole No. 1 from 1-2:30 p.m. CT.
Tomorrow's weather forecast calls for 53 degrees and mostly cloudy skies with 3 mph wind during the morning tee times. The Round 2 projection includes temperatures ranging from 65 to 67 with mostly cloudy conditions and 3 mph winds.
UT Martin's lineup for the 2026 Carpenter/Chaney Classic will include Luke Caldwell, Bryce Harmon, Grant Phillips, Drew Williams and John-Gregory Wilson. Caldwell and Phillips each have scored four match-play victories during their Skyhawk careers while Williams won his match-play debut during last year's Carpenter/Chaney Classic. Tomorrow will mark the collegiate match play debuts of Wilson and Harmon.
