Skyhawks Sweep Team And Individual Victories At 23rd Annual Grover Page Classic

JACKSON, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin golf program accounted for both the team and individual champions at the Grover Page Classic, which wrapped up today at Jackson Country Club.
Senior Grant Phillips used a late birdie binge to claim his third career collegiate victory, tying Southeastern Louisiana's David Marsh, Middle Tennessee's Jake Hopper and Samford's Ryder Rasmussen for medalist honors with a 212 (-4). Phillips entered today three shots off the individual lead but birdied three of his final four holes to climb atop the leaderboard. The Marietta, Ga. native ranked second in the tournament field in par-3 scoring (3.08, +1).
"Anyone who knows Grant's game would not be very surprised," Skyhawk head coach Austin Swafford said. "With him being a senior, he has so much experience to rely on. He's good enough to win any tournament that we play and he will continue to get better."
After taking over the team lead at the conclusion of Round 2, UT Martin completed its first victory of the young 2026-27 campaign by shooting an even-par 288 today. That brought the Skyhawks' three-round cumulative total to 858 (-6) – 11 strokes better than tournament runner-up Samford. Overall, UT Martin led the 10-team field in par-4 scoring (4.04, +6) and par-5 scoring (4.83, -10) while ranking second in the event in par-3 scoring (3.22, +13) and pars (167).
"It's always good to get a win at your home event," Swafford said. "I'm extremely proud of how our guys played over 54 holes, especially with 36 in one day for the first time this season. Combining that with the temperatures that we endured, we did a good job of handling that. With the way that the course was set up, we stayed patient and that paid off for us."
Phillips' 70 with five birdies led the way for the Skyhawks today while Luke Beadles (four birdies) and Drew Williams (three birdies) each carded even-par 72's. Layton Richey was UT Martin's final countable scorer today with a 74 that included three birdies. Lucas Herring also secured three birdies on the way to a 75 as a part of the Skyhawk scoring lineup.
Conner Hill's 76 in Round 3 paced UT Martin's four players competing as individuals as the freshman from Nashville, Tenn. accumulated three birdies and an eagle. Bryce Harmon contributed a 77 with four birdies and was followed by Regan Kueker (78, two birdies) and Jaden Morrell (80).
Overall, Herring (214, -2) capped off his best finish as a Skyhawk with a sixth-place effort in the field of 68 competitors. Williams' third straight even-par score of the tournament led to an 11th place finish at 216. Beadles became the fourth UT Martin representative to place in the top-20 as his 219 (+3) was 20th in the standings.
Kueker finished just outside the top-25 with a 221 (+5) while Hill (227, +11), Richey (228, +12), Harmon (229, +13) and Morrell (237, +21) each made their season debuts this week.
On the player leaderboard, Herring finished second in par-4 scoring (4.42, -7) and fourth in birdies (12). Williams (40 pars) and Kueker (3.87 par-4 scoring average, -4) also ranked second in their respective statistical categories.
"We'd like to send out a big thank you to the Jackson Country Club for once again being gracious hosts this year," Swafford said. "The course is in phenomenal shape. Brandon Mendes and all of the staff were so welcoming and made the tournament another huge success."
The Skyhawks will take a well-deserved week off from official competition before returning to action at the SIUE Dolenc Invitational in Madison, Ill. on Sept. 28-29.
