BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – One final award for the University of Tennessee at Martin's dominant fall season came across the newswire today as the Ohio Valley Conference spotlighted Grant Phillips as its Golfer of the Month for October.
Phillips becomes just the third Skyhawk to claim the OVC Golfer of the Month accolade, which was created prior to the 2018-19 season. He joins Jack Story (September 2019) and Nick Wolf (October 2019) as UT Martin recipients of this award.
A senior out of Marietta, Ga., Phillips posted a pair of top-15 finishes for the Skyhawks in October. He placed 15th in the field of 69 players at The Scrappy at Pinetree with a 219 (+3) in Kennesaw, Ga. on Oct. 12-13 before notching a fifth-place effort with a 204 (-9) at the Twin Oaks Intercollegiate in Springfield, Mo. on Oct. 19-20.
Phillips posted a 70.5 scoring average and shot under par in four of his six rounds last month, including a career-best 66 in Round 1 of the Twin Oaks Intercollegiate. He helped UT Martin to a team victory at the Twin Oaks Intercollegiate as well as a runner-up placement in The Scrappy at Pinetree team standings.
Phillips currently ranks second in the OVC with a 71.1 stroke average, trailing only teammate Drew Williams' 70.5 for the top spot. Phillips played nine of his 15 fall rounds at par or better while collecting two top-five efforts (including a medalist win at the Grover Page Classic on Sept. 14-15) and a trio of top-20 performances. Today's announcement is his second recognition from the OVC this season as the league also touted him as its Golfer of the Week on Sept. 17.
The Skyhawks rounded out the 2026 fall campaign with the best scoring average (283.9) in the OVC – topping second-place Bryant by five-plus shots per round. UT Martin registered top-five team finishes in all five fall events, including tournament crowns at the Grover Page Classic (6-under par on Sept. 14-15) and Twin Oaks Intercollegiate (a program 54-hole scoring record of 31-under par on Oct. 19-20). The Skyhawks tallied a 43-7-4 head-to-head record and an 11-1 head-to-head mark against OVC opposition during the fall season.
