Herring, UT Martin Each Lead Grover Page Classic Standings After Two Rounds

JACKSON, Tenn. – The top spot on both the team and individual standings through 36 holes at the Grover Page Classic each belongs to the University of Tennessee at Martin as the Skyhawks opened their first home tournament of the season with impressive scores.
Junior Lucas Herring is tied atop the player standings with a 139 (-5) through 36 holes at the newly renovated Jackson Country Club, which is now playing at 7,020 yards. The Nashville, Tenn. native leads the 68-man tournament in par-5 scoring (4.00, -8) and ranks second in the field with nine birdies after shooting a 71 (-1) in Round 1 and a career-best 68 (-4) in Round 2.
On the team side, UT Martin registered a 570 (-6) today to lead second-place Missouri State by five strokes. The Skyhawks lead the field in par-3 scoring (3.20, +8), eagles (two) and fewest bogeys (27) while also ranking in the top-three in par-4 scoring (4.06, second), pars (114, second) and par-5 scoring (4.80, third). UT Martin ranked second in the standings after a 289 (+1) during the morning round before jumping to first place in the 10-team tournament with a 281 (-7) during the afternoon session.
In addition to Herring, two other Skyhawks shot under par today and find themselves in the top-10 on the tournament leaderboard. Grant Phillips ranks sixth in the field with a 142 (-2), committing the fewest bogeys (two) in the tournament while ranking sixth in par-3 scoring (3.13, +1). Completing the second-best score by any player competing as an individual was freshman Regan Kueker as the Wamego, Kan. native posted a 143 (-1) to rank 10th in the standings, aided by a tournament-best par-4 scoring average (3.70, -6).
Phillips' 69 led the UT Martin scoring lineup in Round 1 as he dialed up four birdies, an eagle and 11 pars. He was followed by Herring's 71 (three birdies, one eagle), Drew Williams' even-par 72 included three birdies while Luke Beadles (77 with one birdie) concluded the team scoring. Freshman Layton Richey (83, three birdies) was the fifth Skyhawk starter.
Herring's career-best Round 2 score of 68 included six birdies and 11 pars as all four countable UT Martin scores were par or better. Beadles' 70 included five birdies and was followed by Richey (71, three birdies) and Williams (72, one birdie, 16 pars). Phillips shot a 73 with a pair of birdies this afternoon.
Williams ranks 16th in the field with a 144 (E), appearing in the top-six in the tournament in pars (28, second) and par-3 scoring (3.13, sixth). Beadles came away with a 147 (+3) today and was followed in the scoring lineup by Richey (154, +10).
In addition to Kueker, a trio of Skyhawks are also taking part in the Grover Page Classic as individuals. Conner Hill (151, +7) carded rounds of 76-75 with two birdies apiece in his collegiate debut while Bryce Harmon (152, +8) collected scores of 80 (two birdies) in Round 1 and an even-par 72 (four birdies) in Round 2. Jaden Morrell was responsible for rounds of 79-78 with two birdies in each session for a Day 1 tally of 157 (+13).
UT Martin will look to wrap up the Grover Page Classic championship hardware tomorrow, teeing off at 8:15 a.m. The Skyhawk scoring five are paired up alongside Missouri State, Southern Indiana and Samford on Holes No. 1-5 while the four UT Martin individuals will tee off on Holes No. 14, 15, 17 and 18.
