Weather Alters Schedule Again; Skyhawks Host Middle Tennessee Wednesday

MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin softball team takes a break from conference play Wednesday to host Middle Tennessee at Betty Giles Field in Martin at 1 p.m., in a game that was moved from Tuesday due to possible inclement weather. The game will air live on ESPN+ with Chris Brinkley on play-by-play and analyst and former Skyhawk Jodie Duncan.

The Skyhawks are coming off their first three-game sweep of Southeast Missouri since 2016 and are currently 16-12 overall and 4-2 in league play. The highlight of the weekend was the pitching Sami Scholtz. threw the 11th no-hitter in UT Martin history in game one Friday against SEMO and the first seven-inning no-hitter since 2006. In game three Saturday, she carried a no-hitter 5.2 innings before allowing her first two hits of the week. In total, she threw 12.2 consecutive innings without allowing a hit.
Scholtz leads the UT Martin pitching staff at 5-3 with a 2.44 ERA and an opponent's batting average of .184. Offensively, Carly Ward leads eight Skyhawks batting over .300 at .403, which is also the second-best average in the OVC. In the power categories, Avary Makarewicz leads the way with a .679 slugging percentage, a .485 on-base percentage, 25 RBIs and 13 extra-base hits, including five home runs.
As a team, the Skyhawks have the second-best batting average in the OVC at .296 and the second-best ERA in the league at 4.42. They are currently 30th in the nation in total stolen bases with 46 and 49th in the country in stolen bases per game at 1.64.
