
Skyhawks Sweep Doubleheader With Morehead State

The University of Tennessee at Martin softball team swept a doubleheader with Morehead State Monday afternoon at Bettye Giles Field in Martin. The Skyhawks took game one, 11-2, in five innings, and won game two, 9-5.
UT Martin scored 20 runs on 23 hits over the two games and stole a total of nine bases, five in game one and three in game two. In the field, the Skyhawks were flawless Monday and have now committed just one error in the past four games.
In game one, Carly Ward went 2-for-2 with three runs, a stolen base and a hit by pitch, while Kyla Harley was 2-for-3 with a run, two RBIs and a stolen base. Kyrsten Brown was 1-for-1 in the contest with two runs, an RBI and two walks with Alli Robinson adding three RBIs on her sixth home run of the year. Morea Hodge rounded out the Skyhawks with multiple hits in the game, going 2-for-2 with two runs and an RBI.
In the circle, Natalie Kreuziger got the win by allowing one run on three hits with two walks and three strikeouts over 3.0 innings of work. Peyton Harris pitched one inning for UT Martin and gave up one run on one hit with no walks and a strikeout, while Joleanna Fox pitched the final inning and allowed one hit with no runs or walks.
In game two, Avary Makarewicz and Jordyn Hustey got the scoring started in the first with back-to-back home runs. The Eagles tried to chip away at the lead, but the Skyhawks never let them back in and held on for the 9-5 win.
Kennedy Brown, Harley, Makarewicz and Robinson each had two hits in game two, with Brown driving in three runs and Makarewicz driving in two. Hustey also had two RBIs in the game, while Harley stole two bases. Despite going 0-for-1 at the plate in the finale, Hodge scored twice and drew a career-high three walks.
Kreuziger also picked up the win in game two, going 5.1 innings and allowing two runs on five hits with three strikeouts and three walks to move to 4-4 on the year.
There will be no rest for the Skyhawks as they play again Tuesday, April 8 when they travel to 19th-ranked Ole Miss for a single game at 5 p.m.
