Â
Every player in the starting lineup for the Skyhawks (15-23, 6-8 Ohio Valley Conference) reached base safely. Garner Anderson (four runs scored, RBI, walk, double, two stolen bases) and Arderrius Townsend (double, two RBIs, two runs scored) drilled three hits to lead UT Martin while Brody Capps (three RBIs, two runs scored, walk) and JT Popick (two RBIs, run scored) collected two-hit outings. Jalen Fithian (two runs scored, one walk, two stolen bases), Jonah Katsaboulas (walk, run scored, stolen base), Frank Micallef (RBI) and Cameron Greene (two walks, run scored) each added on to the offensive attack that outhit the Eagles, 14-12.
Â
Brandon King started the day going 3.2 innings with two punchouts. Mason Shropshire (1.1 innings pitched, two strikeouts), Austin Gast (1.2 innings pitched, one strikeout), Kaleb Baskin (2-1, 1.1 innings pitched, no hits, no runs) and Jeb Bartle (one inning pitched, no runs, no walks, one strikeout) came in from the bullpen.
Â
After its first three offensive opportunities, Morehead State (12-25, 2-13 OVC) assumed a 5-0 advantage heading into the bottom part of the third. It was then that the Skyhawk offense erupted for six-run third inning. Anderson would put a ball through the left side to score Greene then Capps brought in another off a single. Townsend made it a 5-3 game after the fourth straight single to left field. Popick became the sixth straight UT Martin hitter with a single when the junior sent a ball up the middle of the infield that tied the game at five. With just one out in the inning, Micallef pulled the Skyhawks in front when he put a ball to right field that became the seventh single of the inning.
Â
King retired the first two batters of the fourth before Shropshire finished the frame on a flyout to left field. In the home half, Capps extended his team's lead to two on a single, and with the bases loaded Hudson notched his fourth triple of the year to bring the score to 10-5. Two runs came home for the Eagles in the top of the fifth, but those were quickly answered by the Skyhawks on a sacrifice fly by Capps and a double steal that Anderson scored on.
Â
After Morehead State cut its deficit down to three going to the bottom of the seventh, Townsend rocketed a two-out double down the right field line to plate Anderson for a 13-9 lead. Baskin worked a scoreless frame in the eighth by getting a double play on a lineout and groundout to second.
Â
Bartle slammed the door in the ninth from a flyout, backwards K and pop out to Popick.
Â
UT Martin is back at home next Tuesday to close out a seven-game homestand against Belmont at 5 p.m.
