
Skyhawks Welcome In Belmont For Midweek Clash

MARTIN, Tenn.- The University of Tennessee at Martin baseball team is set to wrap up its homestand when it welcomes in former Ohio Valley Conference rival Belmont on Tuesday, April 22 at 5 p.m. at Skyhawk Field.

UT Martin (15-23) is coming off a series win over Morehead State where it clinched the rubber match by scoring 13 runs on 14 hits. The Skyhawks are leading the conference in stolen bases by 29 bags (87, new division one program record) while batting .285 (fourth in OVC) on the season with a slugging clip of .475 (fourth). On the mound, UT Martin continues to hold the second-most shutouts in the conference with three.

Arderrius Townsend paces the team in home runs (8) and OPS (sixth in OVC, .995). Jalen Fithian is atop the league leaderboards in stolen bases with 24 and Brody Capps has the third-most RBIs in the conference at 39. Freshman Jordan Hudson has shown off his speed with four triples this year (tied for second in OVC).

Kaleb Baskin hasn't allowed a run over his last 3.1 innings pitched and has 18 strikeouts in 21.2 innings pitched. Mason Shropshire and Jeb Bartle are tied for the team lead in appearances (17) while fanning 60 combined batters. Freshman righty JP Nunn has 13 punchouts over 9.2 innings of work.

Belmont (16-26) is led at the plate by sophomore Pete Daniel who is among the league leaders in batting average (fourth, .371) and hits (second, 59). Charlie Davis has stolen 19 bases this season while Mike Sprockett's nine home runs are good enough for first on the team. The Bruins pitching staff is highlighted by freshman Andrew Perry's 37 strikeouts to just seven walks. Trey Maeker has come out of the bullpen on 17 occasions and in 24.1 innings pitched has 29 punchouts.
