Former Skyhawk Seth Petry Returns To Coaching Staff

MARTIN, Tenn.- University of Tennessee at Martin baseball head coach Ryan Jenkins has announced the return of former Skyhawk pitcher Seth Petry to the coaching staff as an assistant ahead of the 2027 season.

Petry comes back to his alma mater after two seasons as an assistant coach for Butler. During his tenure with the Bulldogs, he helped produce two All-BIG EAST team selections in Brock Buckley (right-handed pitcher) and Jack Moroknek (outfielder) while Moroknek became just the fifth student-athlete in program history to be drafted since Butler joined the BIG EAST in 2013.

The Murfreesboro, Tenn. native was a graduate assistant during the 2024 season at UT Martin and pitched for the Skyhawks from 2019-23. He ranked sixth in school history with 36 games started and seventh all-time with 67 appearances. He ranks just outside the program's top 10 innings pitched (206) and strikeouts (148), winning 10 games in his career while serving as UT Martin's Friday night starter for a majority of his final two seasons.

During his senior campaign, the Skyhawks set a program record with 14 Ohio Valley Conference wins, and he led the team in starts with 14. In his lone season on the coaching staff, UT Martin earned back-to-back postseason appearances for the first time in its NCAA Division I history. The Skyhawks knocked off Tennessee Tech in the first round of the conference tournament to earn their second OVC Tournament win in program history. He helped produce four all-conference honorees which marked just the third time UT Martin had received four or more All-OVC accolades in one year, joining the 2010 team (four) and 2023 squad (five).

Petry graduated from UT Martin in 2022 with a degree in interdisciplinary studies.

The Skyhawks finished last season with a D-I program record in wins (26) while TJ Grines (program's first OVC Player of the Year) and TJ Dunsford (All-OVC second team) received postseason accolades. During the MLB Draft in July, Grines was selected by the Los Angeles Angels in the 17th round.
