MARION, Ill.- Despite doubling up Lindenwood in the hits column today, the University of Tennessee at Martin fell in a heartbreaking walk-off decision on Day 1 of the Ohio Valley Conference Championship at Mtn Dew Park.
Â
The Skyhawks wrap up the 2026 campaign with a 26-29 record, setting the mark for most wins in the program's NCAA Division I history.
Â
Seven of the nine UT Martin batters collected a hit with Colten Payton leading the team in hits (three) and JT Popick pacing the Orange and Blue in RBIs (two). Cameron Greene notched two extra base hits with a home run and a double. TJ Grines stole his 66th base of the year in the top of the third to become the all-time single season record holder in Skyhawk Baseball history, passing Churchill Moore (65 in 1986).
Â
Cason Sharp went five innings in the start and struck out two while allowing just two earned runs. Jacob Sitton (one inning, no hits, no runs, one strikeout), Will Turner (2.2 innings, no hits, two strikeouts), Mason Little and Gabe Bryant pitched out of the bullpen.
Â
After a scoreless first inning from Sharp, UT Martin capitalized on a lead-off double by Dunsford when Popick plated him on a groundout to shortstop. Lindenwood (30-26) tied the game up in the bottom part of the inning, but the Skyhawks regained the lead from a Payton RBI single to left field.
Â
Sharp pitched three consecutive hitless frames and his offense upped the advantage to two on a Popick bunt single in the sixth. The Lions knotted the game up at three in the next half inning, but Turner halted the Lindenwood bats to post back-to-back scoreless frames.
Â
In the top of the ninth with a tie game and two outs, Cameron Greene delivered in the clutch once again by blasting a solo shot over the 375-foot sign in right center field to give UT Martin a 4-3 lead.
Â
The Skyhawks were one out away from advancing to the second round before the Lions mounted a rally that ended in a walk-off hit.
