Tennessee Tech Rallies Past Skyhawks In Series Opener

UT Martin had a big second inning that began when Kyrsten Brown stole third base and then scored on an error by Tennessee Tech to make it 1-0. Later in the frame, Avary Makarewicz drove in two runs on a bases-loaded double, pushing the score to 3-0. Alli Robinson, who reached on a single, then made it 4-0 during the following at-bat by scoring on a wild pitch.
However, from that point on it would be all Golden Eagles, as they clamped down defensively and scored eight unanswered runs. Tennessee Tech scored three in the top of the third, before tying the game with a single run in the top of the fourth. In the sixth, the Golden Eagles used two singles and a double to push past the Skyhawks and take the lead for good.
Robinson was 2-for-4 on the day with a run, while Makarewicz had a double and two RBIs. Joeleanna Fox and Carly Ward also had hits in the game, while Kyrsten Brown ended the game with two walks, a run and a stolen base.
The two teams will return to Bettye Giles Field Sunday to settle the series with a doubleheader beginning at Noon.
