
UT MARTIN SOFTBALL TO HOST MEMPHIS FOR TUESDAY MATINEE AT BETTYE GILES FIELD

MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin softball team will take a break from playing seven of eight games on the road by hosting in-state foe Memphis for a midweek matinee on Tuesday, April 6. First pitch from Bettye Giles Field is scheduled for 2 p.m.
UT Martin (19-9, 8-7 OVC) is taking a brief break from the Ohio Valley Conference schedule after dropping its most recent series at SIUE over the weekend. The Skyhawks took the opener 3-0 before dropping both ends of Saturday's doubleheader and ultimately the series to the Cougars.
The Skyhawks feature a dynamic offense which boasts a team batting average sitting at .327 while five players are hitting over .350 on the season. Shyanne Sheffield leads the team with a .403 batting average while tallying six extra base hits and 10 RBIs. Kaci Fuller also ranks near the top of the list with a .392 batting average while tallying seven doubles, three triples, three home runs and 19 RBIs along with 16 stolen bases. Kaitlyn Kelley paces the team while sitting second on the program's single-season leaderboard with 13 home runs and 35 RBIs.
Alexis Groet leads the Skyhawk pitching staff with a 9-3 record and a 1.18 ERA in 65.1 innings of work. Groet has limited opponents to a .198 batting average this season while tallying 62 strikeouts and just 11 earned runs. Veterans Erin Gallagher (4-3, 3.46 ERA) and Hannah Ridolfi (4-2, 3.74 ERA) rank as the team's other top starters.
Memphis (6-24) enters the contest looking to snap an eight-game losing streak. The Tigers boast a .225 batting average as a team and 5.77 ERA. Gracie Morton leads the team with a .326 batting average with six doubles, two triples, three home runs and 14 RBIs. The tandem of Alyssa Dean and Kendall Lee share the team lead with four home runs while combining for 31 RBIs. Mariah Nichols (1-7, 6.48 ERA) leads the team with 54.0 innings pitched while Hallie Siems (1-5, 5.05 ERA) and Chyanne Ellett (2-7, 5.86 ERA) are other top contributors on the staff.
