MARTIN, Tenn. – The final road contest of the 2019-20 campaign for the University of Tennessee at Martin men's basketball team takes place in Alabama as the Skyhawks collide against Ohio Valley Conference rival Jacksonville State. Tipoff on Saturday, Feb. 22 is scheduled for 4 p.m.
These two squads have split their last four matchups, starting with a 67-63 UT Martin victory in Pete Mathews Coliseum during the 2017-18 season. The Skyhawks added a 66-64 home win during last year's regular season before the Gamecocks posted an 88-81 OVC Tournament victory last March.
Two weeks ago at the Kathleen and Tom Elam Center, Jacksonville State claimed a 75-61 win. Parker Stewart (16 points, seven assists), Derek Hawthorne, Jr. (13 points, 10 rebounds), Miles Thomas (13 points, eight rebounds) and Quintin Dove (10 points) all stood out for UT Martin but the Skyhawks could only muster a season-low 61 points while shooting 36.1 percent (22-of-61) from the field.
Dove, the reigning OVC Player of the Week, leads the conference in scoring with 21.5 points per game in league play. In three career outings against the Gamecocks, he is averaging 22.0 points while connecting on 62.5 percent (25-for-40) of his field goal tries.
UT Martin (8-18, 4-11 OVC) is coming off a 78-65 setback at Tennessee Tech on Thursday. In that game, Thomas accumulated career-highs of 19 points and seven assists while Dove hauled in his 10th career double-double with 17 points and 12 rebounds.
Jacksonville State (11-17, 6-9 OVC) notched a 65-58 home triumph over Southeast Missouri on Thursday behind a combined 45 points and 26 rebounds from the trio of De'Torrion Ware, Jacara Cross and Kayne Henry.
Ware has emerged as one of the OVC's most viable scoring threats. After his first scoreless performance of the season against Belmont on Feb. 1, the sophomore has pumped in 20.6 points over five games since then.
This game will be streamed live on ESPN+ while Chris Brinkley will have the radio call locally on WCMT 1410 AM/100.5 FM. Those links - as well as a link for live stats - can be found at the top of the webpage.
