MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin men's basketball team will look to get back in the win column in a building where they have found recent success as the Skyhawks and SIUE Cougars collide in Ohio Valley Conference action. Tipoff on Saturday, Jan. 25 is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
UT Martin (5-13, 1-6 OVC) has not lost in the Vadalabene Center since 2015, winning each of its last four visits to Edwardsville. Overall, the Skyhawks boast a 13-8 all-time record against SIUE, winning seven of the last eight decisions (the lone setback being a 70-69 home loss on Feb. 15, 2018).
Despite a 95-83 road loss at Eastern Illinois in its last outing, UT Martin accomplished a rare feat. Both Parker Stewart and Quintin Dove were responsible for game-highs of 27 points apiece, marking the first time that a pair of Skyhawks had scored at least 25 points in the last 71 games (last occurring against UC Clermont on Dec. 10, 2017).
The duo of Stewart and Dove have been hard to stop in conference play, as they have combined for over 57 percent of UT Martin's scoring (43.3 points out of a 75.7 scoring average).
Derek Hawthorne, Jr. also ranks 10th in the OVC in scoring and accounts for the Skyhawks' most career success against SIUE. The senior guard shot 55 percent (11-for-20) on his way to averaging 16.0 points in two games against the Cougars during the 2018-19 campaign.
SIUE (5-15, 2-5 OVC) is coming off an 84-65 throttling of Southeast Missouri at home on Thursday. In that game, the Cougars led for over 37 minutes of clock time and limited the Redhawks to just 21.7 percent shooting (5-of-23) in the first half.
Mike Adewunmi (career-best 23 points) and Tyresse Williford (season-high 22 points) led the charge against Southeast Missouri, as SIUE leads the OVC in three-point field goal percentage defense (.296) in league play.
This game will be streamed live on ESPN+ while Chris Brinkley (play-by-play) and Alex Boggis (color) will handle the radio analysis locally on WCMT 1410 AM/100.5 FM. Those links, plus a link to follow along with live stats, can be found above.
