MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin soccer team is set to travel to No. 10 ranked system-rival Tennessee. The matchup will take place on Sunday, Sept. 2 with kickoff slated for 1 p.m. CST and is to be streamed on the SEC Network+. This marks the first time the two programs have faced each other.
UT Martin (3-1) is off to its best start since the 2014 season and is averaging 3.50 goals per match. The Skyhawks are coming off of a 1-0 victory over Evansville as the defense shined and Skylor Keane gave UT Martin the edge to come out on top.
The Skyhawks rank ninth in the nation in both shots per game and shots on goal per game while their aforementioned 3.50 goals per contest are good for 12th among all programs.
Leading the way for UT Martin is Jaden Hildreth (three goals) while the trio of Skylor Keane, Dane Kaldaridou and Blare Gerido have all notched a pair of goals each. Rounding out the scoring column is Bella Roberts, Alice Adams, Samantha Kelly, Nicole Collins and Amy McGivern. Five Skyhawks have made nifty passes which led to goals as Roberts and Katelyn Colvin lead the pack with two while Keane, Adams and Hendrikje Baurmann have one assist apiece.
The UT Martin defense has been great as of late as the Skyhawks have shutout their last two opponents. Kamryn Chappell has led the way for the UT Martin back line this year as her 310 minutes played so far are second on the team.
Goalkeeping has also been outstanding in recent matchups as Erica Myers is coming off of a 1-0 shutout. Myers along with Makenzie Crawford and Callie Thomas have combined for 360 minutes played between the posts and have racked up a total of seven saves. As a whole, all Skyhawk goalkeepers have posted a paltry goals against average of 0.75.
No. 10 Tennessee (4-0-1) has been on fire to kick off the season as the Volunteers have allowed just one goal this year, which came in a 1-1 draw against Wake Forest.
Leading the way for Tennessee, Amy Thompson has netted three goals while Katie Cousins has put two shots into the back of the net. Salera Jordan, M. A. Vignola, Rylie O'Keefe, Anna Bialczak, Erin Gilroy, Paige Franks and Brice McInroy have all scored one goal each to give the Volunteers a total of nine scorers. Salera has tallied a team-best three assists while Vignola, Danielle Marcano and McKinley Burkett have recorded two assists each.
Shae Yanez has played the majority of the time in goal for Tennessee as she has logged over 466 minutes and racked up eight saves under seventh-year head coach Brian Pensky.
