
UT MARTIN SOCCER CLAIMS 3-1 VICTORY AT MARSHALL

HUNTINGTON, W. Va. – The University of Tennessee at Martin soccer squad netted a trio of goals this afternoon en route to its first victory of the 2018 campaign as it downed the Marshall Thundering Herd.
As a team, UT Martin (1-1) tallied 15 shots (nine on goal) with Alice Adams' four leading the pack. Amy McGivern, Skylor Keane and Danae Kaldaridou each put up three shots and all scored a goal in the match. Katelyn Colvin and Keane accounted for an assist each in the bout. Bianca McFarland and Colvin rounded out the shot column for the Skyhawks.
Senior Makenzie Crawford drew the starting nod as the squad's goalkeeper and played the match in its entirety. She allowed just one goal, coming in the opening minutes but then kept the Thundering Herd at bay for the remained of the match and racked up three saves.
In all, Crawford, Kaldaridou, McGivern and Kamryn Chappell recorded a full 90-minute outing for the Skyhawks. The UT Martin back line was unfazed by the opening goal as it allowed just seven shots for the match and locked down in the second half by allowing just two Marshall shots.
Marshall got on the board first as it netted its lone goal in the fifth minute but Kaldaridou would answer just over a minute later to knot the score at 1-1 as she took a pass from Keane on the left side to sneak the ball in for the equalizer. McGivern found a ricochet for a header that put the Skyhawks up 2-1 at in the 19th minute. Keane would issue the final UT Martin goal in the 90th minute of play as she received a pass from Colvin to then spin around a defender and sent the ball to the far left corner for the third goal of the match.
UT Martin is set to begin home play as it welcomes Jackson State to Skyahwk Field on Sunday, Aug. 26. First touch is slated for 2 p.m.
