Skyhawks Edged By Morehead State In Series Finale Monday

MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin softball team fell in the series finale with Morehead State Monday at Bettye Giles Field in Martin, 1-0. Despite the loss, the Skyhawks still claimed the series after sweeping Sunday's doubleheader.

The game came down to just two plays, beginning with a single from the Eagles' Sela Pickford and a two-base error by the Skyhawks to lead off the fourth inning. After holding Pickford at third on a bunt by Noemye Letendre in the next at-bat, Pickford scored in the subsequent one, beating the tag at home on a RBI fielder's choice from Sage VanDemark.

The Skyhawks had four hits in the game and left six stranded, but could not get any runs across the plate and fell to the Eagles, snapping their six-game winning streak in the process.

Karena Recrosio had two hits on the day, while Kyla Harley and Kennedy Brown each had one, in addition to each stealing a base. Ava Scott walked twice in the game, while Carly Ward walked once.

Despite allowing no earned runs, Payton Harris took the loss in the circle after giving up five hits with one strikeout and no walks over 5.1 innings. Sami Scholtz finished the game for the Skyhawks and allowed two hits, while striking out three.

This weekend, UT Martin will make its final road trip of the regular season when it travels to Tennessee Tech for a three-game series beginning with a doubleheader Saturday and concluding with a single game Sunday. First pitch both days is scheduled for 1 p.m.
