
Grines Becomes UT Martin’s Division I Stolen Base King During Series Finale Against Tennessee Tech

Six multi-hit games helped UT Martin (18-17, 5-7 OVC) outhit the Golden Eagles 19-18 with Andrew Davis leading the team with a season-high four hits and a career-best three doubles. Cameron Greene (home run, double) drove in a career-high four runs while Grines (three RBIs, two stolen bases), Colten Payton (two RBIs), TJ Dunsford (home run, two RBIs) and Amari Conley (triple, two RBIs) drove in multiple runs. Andrew Lawerence (two runs scored), JT Popick (run scored) and Garner Anderson registered multi-hit outings. Every Skyhawk that came to the plate collected a hit.
Maxwell Schumacher started the contest with two innings and a strikeout. Out of the bullpen, Dean McCalla (one inning, one strikeout), Drake Bayles (one inning, one strikeout), Silas Jones (two innings), Mason Little (one inning, one strikeout) and Gabe Bryant (two innings, two strikeouts) made appearances.
UT Martin responded to a Tennessee Tech (12-24, 2-10 OVC) run in the top of the first with four runs in the home half. Payton scored off a throwing error and Greene blasted a two-run shot over the wall in center field for a 4-1 lead for the Skyhawks. The Golden Eagles knotted the game up in the second but went scoreless in the third against McCalla. The Skyhawks regained the lead in the bottom of the third from another two-run homer this time off the bat of Dunsford to bring the score to 6-4.
Down six in the bottom of the fourth, UT Martin locked in at the plate with a five-run inning to pull within one. Grines singled home Anderson then Payton plated Grines on a sacrifice fly. Greene doubled Lawrence and Davis in, and Conley was able to draw a bases loaded walk for the Skyhawks to put pressure on Tennessee Tech.
After Jones spun a scoreless sixth, the Skyhawks regained the lead. Conley punched a ball down the right field line for an RBI triple which was followed by a two-run single off the bat of Grene to pull UT Martin in front. Lawrence scored Grines off a groundball to the right side that capped off the offensive attack in the bottom part of the inning which helped the Skyhawks take the advantage 16-13.
UT Martin would compete till the final out over the next few innings, but the Golden Eagles were able to take the series finale, 18-16.
The Skyhawks end a four-game homestand on Tuesday, April 14 at 5 p.m. against North Alabama.
