CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo.- The University of Tennessee at Martin baseball team collected 10 hits but fell 11-4 to Southeast Missouri in Game 2 of the weekend series at Capaha Field.
Â
Eight different Skyhawks notched a base knock with Andrew Davis (stolen base) and Cameron Greene (double, RBI) leading the team with two hits apiece. Colten Payton, JT Popick and Andrew Lawrence drove in runs for UT Martin (10-12, 0-2 Ohio Valley Conference) while TJ Grines (stolen base), TJ Dunsford, Garner Anderson and Bo Strickland tacked on base hits.
Â
Will Turner (2-1) started the contest pitching 1.2 innings and fanning one Redhawk. Silas Jones (career-high 3.1 innings, one strikeout, no earned runs), Dean McCalla (two innings, season-best three strikeouts) and Trevor Busyn (one inning, no runs allowed) pitched out of the bullpen for the Skyhawks.
Â
Southeast Missouri (17-7, 2-0 OVC) snagged the lead in the early going, but Jones halted the Redhawks' momentum by tossing a scoreless third and fourth frames. UT Martin got on the board from a Payton sacrifice fly and following back-to-back shutout innings by McCalla, the Skyhawks sliced their deficit down to four in the eighth. Popick singled to get a run home and Greene doubled in the next at-bat for another runner to touch home plate. Lawrence finished off the scoring in the frame with an RBI groundout that plated Popick to make it 8-4.
Â
However, Southeast Missouri managed to mount a rally in the home half and took the win on Saturday afternoon.
Â
The series finale is set for tomorrow at 1 p.m.
