MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin softball team captured the series win against Tennessee State Sunday by shutting out the Tigers for the second time in two days, 6-0, at Bettye Giles Field in Martin. Prior to the game, Alli Robinson was honored as part of the Senior Day tradition.
The only offense the Skyhawks needed came in the second inning when they exploded for the only six runs of the game by either team. Jordyn Hustey started the scoring with a single up the middle that scored Dylan Scott and Carly Ward, who reached on a double and single, respectively, earlier in the frame.
After a single from Kennedy Brown and a botched fielder's choice during Kyla Harley's at bat, Ava Scott cleared the bases with a double to left center, scoring Hustey, Brown and Harley to make it 5-0. On her Senior Day, Alli Robinson capped the scoring at 6-0 by blasting one up the middle to score Ava Scott from second.
In the circle, Ashtyn Green tossed her second shutout in as many days, allowing no runs on seven hits with five strikeouts and no walks. For the weekend, Green threw 13.0 scoreless innings with nine strikeouts, no walks, an opponent's batting average of just .208 and a WHIP of 0.76.
Hustey was the only Skyhawk to tally multiple hits in the game, going 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run. Meanwhile, with her double in the second, Dylan Scott extended her current hitting streak to a team-best seven games.
The Skyhawks close out the 2025 regular season next weekend when they travel to Edwardsville, Illinois, to take on SIUE in the season's final three-game Ohio Valley Conference series. The two teams will play a doubleheader at Noon Saturday, followed by a single game Sunday at Noon.
