ST. CHARLES, Mo.- The University of Tennessee at Martin baseball team used stellar pitching to limit the Ohio Valley Conference's best offense to just two runs but fell 2-0 at Lindenwood in the series finale.
Â
Cameron Greene (sixth multi-hit game) and Arderrius Townsend had base hits for the Skyhawks (10-18, 2-4 OVC) while Jordan Hudson drew a walk.
Â
Zach Wager (2-4) threw six innings allowing just two runs, no walks and struck out two. Kaleb Baskin pitched the final two innings for UT Martin and didn't allow a run or walk with two punchouts.
Â
The Lions (14-14, 4-2 OVC) got the game's first run in the home half of the first, but Wager bounced back well with a 1-2-3 frame in the second. One base hit was all Lindenwood could show for the third inning as Wager forced a foul out, groundout and punchout.
Â
The leadoff man reached in the bottom of the fourth however Wager induced a line out and double play to conclude the frame. The southpaw surrendered just one hit in the fifth by getting two groundouts and a popout to TJ Grines. Lindenwood extended their lead by one in the sixth and Baskin would be called upon out of the bullpen for the seventh inning.
Â
Baskin worked around a baserunner to post a scoreless frame in the seventh after two strikeouts and a runner caught stealing by catcher Tommy Koch. Baskin forced three straight groundouts that ended the eighth and gave the righty another scoreless inning.
Â
Down to their final three outs, the Skyhawks brought the top of the order to the plate but were unable to tie the game.
Â
UT Martin will now prepare to host Alabama A&M on Tuesday, April 1 at 3 p.m.
