MARTIN, Tenn. – A stretch of four consecutive home matches for the University of Tennessee at Martin volleyball team starts tomorrow as the Skyhawks look to continue their recent success against Ohio Valley Conference rival Southern Indiana. Match times are set for 4 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 7 and 10 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 8.
UT Martin is 6-2 all-time against the Screaming Eagles, including a perfect 4-0 mark in matches played at Skyhawk Fieldhouse. That includes a 3-0 decision in the last meeting between these two squads as UT Martin completed the season sweep over Southern Indiana last fall.
During last season's two-match series against the Screaming Eagles, Kayla Bryant tallied a pair of double-doubles with averages of 3.38 kills and 3.00 digs per set. Kylie Surratt paced the Skyhawks offensively in both matchups, slamming down 31 combined kills (3.88 per set) on a .256 attack percentage. Dylan Sulcer (triple-double of 11 kills, 13 assists and 14 digs in Evansville) and Maddy Gladson (11 kills on a .526 hitting percentage with five blocks in three sets in Martin) also provided standout individual performances against Southern Indiana in 2024. Bryant also added a 16-kill, career-best 28-dig effort against Southern Indiana during the 2023 campaign.
This weekend will be UT Martin's first appearance in front of its home crowd since Oct. 18. In five home matches this season, Surratt's 59 kills (3.28 per set) lead the way while Ava Peters has handed out 157 assists (8.26 per set). Abby Freund (77 digs, 4.05 per set) and Carly Mueller (19 blocks, 1.46 per set) have guided the Skyhawks defensively.
The Screaming Eagles are in the midst of a busy stretch, having just played last night at home against Tennessee Tech. Three-time OVC Setter of the Week Aysa Thomas was responsible for a double-double (34 assists, match-high 19 digs) but Southern Indiana fell in four sets for just its second loss in its last 10 decisions. The Screaming Eagles boast one of the best defensive attacks in the country, ranking second in the NCAA Division I volleyball with 17.90 digs per set to go along with an OVC-high 2.27 blocks per set.
