MARTIN, Tenn. – A two-match Ohio Valley Conference home series is next up for the University of Tennessee at Martin volleyball team as the Skyhawks host Southeast Missouri this weekend. First serve times are set for 6 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 23 and 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 24 as both matches will stream live on ESPN+.
Halfway through the OVC season, UT Martin (9-10, 4-4 OVC) finds itself in third place in the league standings. The Skyhawk defense has been a mainstay all season as UT Martin leads the OVC in opponent hitting percentage (.181) and blocks (2.07 per set).
Last weekend, it was the Skyhawk offense that was the story as UT Martin put together a road sweep at Western Illinois. The Skyhawks combined to hit .254 with 14.14 kills per set as a team during the series, led by Maddy Gladson (3.57 kills per set, including a career-best 15 rally killers in the three-set victory on Saturday), Dylan Sulcer (10.29 assists per set, nine kills on a .571 attack percentage) and Rylee Key (3.14 kills per set on a .356 hitting percentage). For her efforts, Key was tabbed as the OVC Rookie of the Week for the second time this fall.
Offensively, Sulcer ranks third in the OVC with 8.20 assists per set in league play while Abby Freund's 0.34 service aces per set ranks seventh in the OVC. Lauren Mariscal paces the UT Martin defense with 3.54 digs per set (fourth-most in the league) while Key (0.91, third), Carly Mueller (0.89, fifth) and Mia Saenz (0.80, ninth) each rank in the top-10 in the OVC in blocks per set.
Southeast Missouri (14-7, 7-1 OVC) accounts for a league-best .326 attack percentage against OVC competition. Reagan Nelson leads the OVC in kills per set (4.50) and points (5.10 per set) in league play while Alaina Lester's .455 hitting percentage overall and .566 attack percentage against OVC squads are both the best marks in the league. Lucy Arndt ranks fifth in the league with 3.37 kills per set and was named OVC Offensive Player of the Week on Monday (4.67 kills per set with a .409 hitting percentage last weekend in a pair of sweeps against Morehead State).
