Both UT Martin Rodeo Teams Notch Top-Five Finishes At Arkansas-Monticello

MONTICELLO, Ark. – Dodging inclement weather in the area, the University of Tennessee at Martin men's and women's squads completed its scheduled rodeo at Arkansas-Monticello with each team bringing home a top-five finish.
The Skyhawk cowboys managed a season-high tally in points for the second straight week, producing 350 points to place fourth in the standings behind winner Missouri Valley College (790 points). The UT Martin cowgirls finished fifth with 105 points as Murray State's 275 points topped the field.
A pair of Skyhawks accrued points in calf roping, led by Clint Southworth. The graduate from Bagdad, Ky. registered points in all three phases of the event, splitting third in the opening round (10.3), splitting fourth in average (21.9) and placing fifth in the short go (11.6). Bentley Anthony also came away with points, finishing fourth in the second round (10.1) before splitting fourth in average (21.9).
Drew Thomas recorded points in the first round of breakaway roping as the sophomore out of Markle, Ind. placed third in the field after posting a time of 2.7 seconds.
In saddle bronc riding, Jacob McFarland generated points in both the opening round and in average as his 58 in the first go held up to place fifth in each phase.
Anthony additionally produced points in steer wrestling as the sophomore from Hohenwald, Tenn. finished fifth in the opening round (6.2).
Anna Wilder earned points in goat tying as her time of 7.6 seconds was good enough to split fourth in the field.

Picking up points in his third event of the weekend, Anthony joined forces with Jace Stigall to finish third in the opening round (7.5), fourth in the short go (12.3) and fourth in average (19.8). Wesley Kuhnert and Caleb Dunn also teamed up to tally points in all three phases, placing fourth in the first go (8.1), fifth in the short round (12.4) and fifth in average (20.5).
Sophomore Kylie Jo Castor performed extremely well in barrel racing as the Highfill, Ark. native finished second in the opening round (15.02), third in the short go (15.07) and third in average (30.09) during a return to her home state. Savannah Moran also came through with points in all three phases as her times of 30.31 in average (fourth), 15.16 in the short go (fourth) and 15.15 in the opening round (fifth) ranked amongst the best in the field.
Ryder Carpenetti nabbed some hard-fought points in bull riding as the freshman placed third in the short round (75), splitting third in average (147) and finishing fifth in the opening go (72).
The Skyhawks will take some time off before taking part in their fall finale, which will take place at Murray State on Thursday, Nov. 20 through Saturday, Nov. 22.
