Skyhawks To Start Spring Campaign Tomorrow At Murray State

MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin rodeo squads will be back in action for the first time in four-and-a-half months when it opens its spring schedule at Murray State on March 5-7.
The rodeo hosted by Murray State was originally supposed to take place on Nov. 20-22 but was rescheduled because of a nationwide Equine Herpesvirus (EHV-1) outbreak. This rodeo is now the first of six events on the Ozark Region's spring calendar as the Skyhawks will also compete at East Mississippi (March 12-14) and Pearl River (March 19-21) before hosting the 58th Annual UT Martin Spring College Rodeo on April 9-11. The Skyhawks will close out the regular season at Arkansas Tech (April 16-18) and Northwest Mississippi (April 23-25) before the 78th Annual College National Finals Rodeo takes place in Casper, Wyo. on June 14-20.
During the fall season, the UT Martin women's team turned in a pair of top-five finishes and rank fifth in the regional standings with 355 points. The Skyhawk cowboys placed fourth in back-to-back rodeos to conclude the fall slate, currently ranking sixth in the Ozark Region with 910 points.
The UT Martin cowgirls have excelled in barrel racing as four Skyhawks rank inside the top-12 in the regional standings in that event. Savannah Moran sits atop the region with 270 points while Kylie Jo Castor (220 points, fourth), Ryanne Frecker (110 points, ninth) and Kinzey Newton (90 points, 12th) all had strong performances in the fall. Bekah Legan also ranks seventh in the Ozark Region with 120 points in breakaway roping to help lead the UT Martin women's squad.
On the men's side, nine Skyhawk cowboys rank in the top-15 regionally in their respective events. UT Martin is most prominent in calf roping as Clint Southworth (240 points, third), Owen Larrick (160 points, fifth), Caden Ussery (160 points, fifth) and Bentley Anthony (55 points, 15th) each got off to good starts in the fall. Skyhawk newcomers Ryder Carpenetti (155 points) and Luke Stanley (95 points) rank fourth and seventh, respectively, in bull riding while Jacob McFarland ranks seventh with 50 points in saddle bronc riding. Anthony (ninth with 100 points in team roping header and 11th with 80 points in steer wrestling), Jace Stigall (ninth with 100 points in team roping heeler) and Daniel Wilder (13th with 60 points in steer wrestling) additionally posted notable fall scores.
