MARTIN, Tenn. – For the second time in his career, University of Tennessee at Martin graduate Clint Southworth has qualified for the upcoming College National Finals Rodeo, which will take place in Casper, Wyo. on Sunday, June 14 through Saturday, June 20.
Southworth received an opportunity to compete for a national championship after topping the Ozark Region in tie down roping, piling up 760 points – 230 more than the regional runner-up. That marked the second time that he won the Ozark Region in tie down roping as he also participated in the 2024 CNFR after posting 700 points during the regular season.
The Bagdad, Ky. native piled up the eighth-most tie down roping points in the nation this season, earning points in each of the final eight Ozark Region rodeos. Southworth won the average at Southern Arkansas (Oct. 9-11) and at East Mississippi (March 12-14) while finishing second in average at Arkansas Tech (April 16-18). Overall, he collected at least 70 points in six separate rodeos, scoring 150-plus in those three aforementioned rodeos.
Southworth will make the 1,250-mile trip to Wyoming for the CNFR, which is where the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association crowns individual event champions in saddle bronc riding, bareback riding, bull riding, tie down roping, steer wrestling, team roping, barrel racing, breakaway roping and goat tying. National team championships are also awarded to both men's and women's squads as the top two teams and best three participants from each of the above events across the 11 NIRA regions automatically qualify for CNFR entry. The 2026 CNFR field is expected to exceed 400-plus cowboys and cowgirls from over 100 universities and colleges.
