MARSHALL, Mo. – It was a successful 2026-27 rodeo season opener for the University of Tennessee at Martin men's team over the weekend as the Skyhawks placed first in the event hosted by Missouri Valley College.

The UT Martin men's squad came away with 540 points to edge out West Alabama (510) for the top spot in the standings. It marked the first victory for the Skyhawk cowboys since March 6-8, 2025 at Arkansas Tech and the first season-opening win for the UT Martin men's program since winning at Missouri Valley College on Sept. 19-21, 2019.

On the women's side, the Skyhawks posted 90 points for a fourth-place effort on a tight leaderboard. Although West Alabama won the event with 500 points, only 50 points separated UT Martin from the runner-up.

Spencer Mancini placed in two rounds of bareback riding, splitting fifth in the opening go (59 points) before splitting sixth in average with the same score.

A pair of Skyhawk cowboys accounted for points in calf roping. Cooper Stone finished second in both average (22.1) and in the short round (10.7) while placing fifth in the first go (11.4). Owen Larrick's time of 11.4 seconds in the opening round was good enough for sixth place.

The duo of Roany Clendenin and Colee Stone each managed points in breakaway roping as they both finished with identical times (split third with a 2.8 first round, split fifth with a 2.8 average).

Newcomer Caden Lowe showed out in saddle bronc riding, winning in average (154 points) and in the first round (83) while splitting first in the short go (71).

Daniel Wilder additionally provided a victory in steer wrestling as the sophomore out of Millington, Tenn. boasted the best average (8.6) and top short go time (4.0 flat) while splitting third with an opening-round performance of 4.6 seconds. He was followed closely behind by teammate Spencer Howard, who won the first go (3.9 seconds) before placing third in average (10.8) and fourth in the short round (6.9).

In goat tying, Clendenin secured points in all three phases with a 14.5 average (sixth) after splitting sixth in both the opening round (7.0) and short go (7.5). Anna Wilder also accounted for a time of 7.0 seconds flat in the first round, splitting sixth in the process.

Cooper Stone tacked on more points in team roping as he joined forces with East Mississippi's Dylan Delmas to place third in both average (23.9) and in the short round (11.6).

Three UT Martin representatives compiled points in barrel racing, paced by Gracie Restuccio's winning average of 30.09 seconds. The sophomore from Hammonton, NJ also placed first in the short round (14.91) after splitting fourth in the first go (15.18). Auburn Royals won the opening round of the event with a time of 15.03 seconds while Anna Wilder (15.18) split the first go with Restuccio.

The Skyhawk men's and women's teams are back in action next week as they head to Livingston, Ala. for a rodeo hosted by West Alabama on Thursday, Sept. 24 through Saturday, Sept. 26.
