The University of Tennessee at Martin softball team returns to Bettye Giles Field to open a four-game homestand beginning with a midweek matchup against Division III foe Rhodes College on Tuesday, April 16. First pitch is slated for 3 p.m. with the contest airing live on ESPN+.
The Skyhawks (23-18) enter the contest hot off a series win over Ohio Valley Conference foe Tennessee Tech. UT Martin won the series opener and finale with a pair of go-ahead scores in the top of the seventh inning to steal the three-game series.
UT Martin has found success at Bettye Giles Field this season with the squad boasting a 10-4 record in its friendly confines. The Skyhawks have been especially strong against non-conference opponents when they have posted a 5-0 record at home.
Senior Kaci Fuller enters the game on the brink of program history. With four hits against Tennessee Tech last weekend, Fuller moved into a tie with UT Martin Hall of Famer Jenny Bain for the program's all-time hit record with 237 hits and needs just one more to sit in sole possession of the school benchmark. The senior also ranks as the program's career leader in batting average with an all-time mark of .389.
Offensively, Kiersten Nixon and Katie Dreiling rank as the team's other top contributors. Nixon boasts a .324 batting average with four doubles, two home runs and 11 RBIs whiles Dreiling is hitting .323 with 10 doubles, two home runs and 27 RBIs. In the pitching circle, Brooklynn Linneman (7-5, 1.61 ERA) leads the team in several categories while Nixon (5-4, 2.67 ERA) and Dreiling (6-4, 3.32 ERA) also rank among team leaders.
Rhodes College (17-18-1) features a potent offense which is hitting .328 as a team while 10 regular players are hitting over .300 – including standout Jasmyn Stanley who leads all players with a .481 batting average and 16 steals. Madison Granberry (.394, 10 doubles, 20 RBIs) and Talia Travia (seven doubles, five home runs and 21 RBIs) share the team-lead with 37 hits on the season. Meanwhile in the circle, the Lynx are paced by Gina Dudley with a 10-4 record and 2.40 ERA in 99.1 innings of work.
The two programs have met just once previously, with UT Martin picking up a 12-1 victory over Rhodes College last March.
