The University of Tennessee at Martin softball team will take a break from Ohio Valley Conference action by playing regional rival Southern Illinois for a mid-week matchup on Tuesday, March 26. First pitch from Bettye Giles Field is slated for 3 p.m. on ESPN+.
The Skyhawks (16-13) are coming off a series win over visiting SIUE over the weekend, bookending the series with a pair of 4-3 victories. UT Martin opened the series with a comeback victory – keyed by a walk-off two-run home run by Kaci Fuller – before scoring five runs in the final two offensive innings to seal the series win in the finale.
Fuller leads the Skyhawks with a .406 batting average while tallying 10 extra base hits and 21 RBIs. Katie Dreiling ranks second on the team with a .371 average while pacing the squad with eight doubles and 22 RBIs.
The pitching staff is led by a pair of five-game winners in Brooklynn Linneman (5-3, 1.64 ERA) and Dreiling (5-4, 3.23 ERA). The tandem has combined to pitch 99 innings for the Skyhawks this season.
Southern Illinois (23-4) enters the contest on a 16-game winning streak – stretching through the entire month of March. The Salukis feature four batters hitting over .300 with Elizabeth Warwick leading the way with a .341 batting average, 12 doubles, two home runs and 15 RBIs. Sidney Jones paces the team with 21 RBIs while Jackie Lis has a team-best six home runs. The pitching staff is highlighted by Maddia Groff with a 15-0 record and 0.44 ERA in 96.0 innings of work.
