
UT MARTIN SOFTBALL OPENS HOME SLATE WITH DOUBLEHEADER VS BRESCIA ON WEDNESDAY

The University of Tennessee at Martin softball program makes its home debut with a non-conference doubleheader on Wednesday, Feb. 21 when playing host to NAIA foe Brescia. First pitch from Bettye Giles Field is scheduled for 1 p.m. with Game 2 to follow approximately 30 minutes later.
UT Martin (2-5) opens its home schedule after a pair of tournaments two jump start the season. The Skyhawks picked up a win over Samford in the season opener at the Troy Classic and also notched a victory in the first game of the Roar City Classic, knocking off Saint Louis by a 5-0 margin.
The Skyhawks feature a roster which includes 10 seniors in 2024 – including five players which earned postseason honors last season. The trio of outfielder Kaci Fuller (first team), infielder/pitcher Katie Dreiling (second team) and outfielder/catcher Avry Blume (second team) each earned All-OVC honors while the tandem of Brooklynn Linneman and Kiersten Nixon garnered OVC All-Newcomer nods.
Offensively, the team enters the midweek series boasting a .282 batting average while Dreiling paces the squad with a .400 batting average, three doubles and five RBIs. Fuller – the program's all-time leader in career batting average – boasts a .333 average in 2024 while adding one double, one triple and a home run on the year.
The pitching staff for the home squad is led by Nixon who has posted a 1.81 ERA in 7.2 innings of work while Linneman has also been strong, recording a 1.91 ERA in 11.0 innings of action along with one victory.
Brescia is 0-1 on the young season while head coach Traci Smith opens her 18th season at the helm of the Bearcats. In their lone game this season, the Bearcats were led by Hayden Pulliam and Zoe Smithson with a pair of two-hit performances while Raini Gerometta (0-1) allowed two earned runs over 5.0 innings of work.
