DREILING AND BATS LEAD SKYHAWKS TO 7-0 WIN OVER TOP-SEEDED SEMO

OXFORD, Ala. – The University of Tennessee at Martin softball team rode the right arm of Katie Dreiling while the Skyhawk bats gave her plenty of breathing room to knock off top-seeded Southeast Missouri by a final score of 7-0 in the Ohio Valley Conference Softball Championship on Thursday evening.
The Skyhawks (23-22) picked up their second win of the day behind an impressive outing on both sides of the ball. Offensively, UT Martin scored seven runs on eight hits while Dreiling kept the Redhawks at bay with a shutout victory.
Dreiling, a former Redhawk herself, made her old team pay by throwing up seven shutout innings on Thursday afternoon. She struck out four Redhawks in the contest – including an impressive fifth inning in which she struck out the side. Meanwhile, she also made some plays on offense where she tallied a base knock and scored a run.
Another standout performer was All-OVC outfielder Avry Blume who left her mark on the field with both her bat and glove. After going 4-for-4 in the tournament opener against SIUE this morning, she followed that up with a 2-for-3 afternoon while launching her second solo home run of the day. Along with her work in the box, she sealed the game with a diving catch in the left center gap to punctuate a big win.
Joining the stat-stuffing Skyhawk group was Kaci Fuller and Kiersten Nixon who both added multi-hit contests. Fuller went 2-for-4 with an RBI knock while Nixon went 2-for-3 with a solo home run – her seventh of the season.

Southeast Missouri (28-13) found a pair of multi-hit afternoons from leadoff hitter Jillian Anderson and six-hole hitter Kat Sackett. Paytience Holman (6-8) was hit with the loss after giving up three earned runs in three innings before Delaney Kell was tagged with two runs in four innings.
UT Martin advances in the winner's bracket of the OVC Softball Championship and will square off against second-seeded Eastern Illinois on Friday, May 12. First pitch is tentatively scheduled for 3 p.m.
