MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin men's basketball team tries for its fifth consecutive victory in the all-time series against Southeast Missouri when the two squads collide in an Ohio Valley Conference bout at the Show Me Center. The game is scheduled to tip off a 7 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 24.
The Skyhawks (8-20, 4-12 OVC) have not lost to the Redhawks since Feb. 13, 2020, sweeping last year's season series for the first time since 2008-09. The last four meetings between these two teams in Cape Girardeau have been decided by an average of 3.8 points per contest.
Earlier this month, UT Martin claimed an 84-63 triumph over Southeast Missouri at the Elam Center. KJ Simon (19 points), Mikel Henderson (17 points), Bernie Andre (14 points, 12 rebounds), KK Curry (10 points) and Chris Nix (10 points) each carried the Skyhawks to their biggest margin of victory this season against a NCAA Division I opponent.
UT Martin is coming off a narrow 62-60 setback in its home finale against now-No. 19 Murray State last Saturday. Simon rattled in a game-high 24 points to go along with nine rebounds for the Skyhawks, who led for 25:43 of game time but fell on a go-ahead old-fashioned three-point play with 10 seconds remaining.
With two regular season contests remaining, UT Martin is currently in a tie with SIUE for eighth place in the OVC standings. The top eight teams in the league qualify for next week's OVC Championship, once again held in Evansville, Ind.
The Redhawks (12-16, 7-8 OVC) snapped a three-game losing skid with a stirring 92-84 road victory at defending OVC champion Morehead State on Saturday. Reigning OVC Player of the Week Eric Reed contributed a game-high 28 points for Southeast Missouri, who knocked down 15 three-pointers in only 30 tries for an even 50 percent clip. Against league opposition, the Redhawks rank atop the OVC in three-point field goals made (10.1 per game) and three-point field goal percentage (.367).
This game will be streamed live on ESPN+ while Chris Brinkley (play-by-play) and Brandon Burke (color) will handle the radio call locally on WCMT 1410 AM/100.5 FM. Those links, as well as a link for live stats, can be found at the top of the webpage.
