MARTIN, Tenn. – The first two competitions of the University of Tennessee at Martin's equestrian spring season take place this weekend, as the Skyhawks travel to Fresno, Calif. to take on No. 6 Fresno State on Friday, Feb. 7 and UC Davis on Saturday, Feb. 8.
Ranked No. 10 in yesterday's National Collegiate Equestrian Association poll, UT Martin will take on UC Davis for the first time in school history. It is also the Skyhawks' first trip out to California since Feb. 19, 2012 when they also visited Fresno for matchups against TCU and Fresno State.
This weekend is part of a six-competition regular-season slate for UT Martin this spring, as it will also host SMU and SUNY New Paltz on Feb. 20-21 before traveling to Athens, Ga. to take on Delaware State and Georgia on Feb. 29. The inaugural Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship is set for March 26-28 in Dover, Del. while the 2020 NCEA Championships will take place in Waco, Texas on April 15-18.
The Skyhawks found success on several fronts during the fall campaign. In horsemanship, each of UT Martin's five riders dialed up at least one win as the squad joined forces for 11 victories, two MOP efforts and a 71.7 scoring average in the event. Five different Skyhawks have also chalked up a victory in reining as the team is responsible for a pair of MOP's and a 62.5 scoring average to round out the Western discipline this season.
In Jumping Seat, a trio of UT Martin riders have earned victories in fences – chipping in one MOP and a 73.0 scoring average. Four different Skyhawks have combined for individual victories in flat, two of which have registered MOP honors as the team has produced a 73.0 scoring average.
Live scoring will be available for both competitions this weekend. Those links can be found at the top of the webpage.
