UT Martin Battles But Falls In Rainy Outing At Delaware State

DOVER, Del. – The University of Tennessee at Martin equestrian team put up a fight in its Eastern College Athletic Conference opener today but Delaware State claimed a 10-6 decision at RedStone Ranch.
For the second day in a row, the Skyhawks dominated in fences as the squad went 3-1-1 in that event. UT Martin also claimed two points (plus a tie) in horsemanship while adding one point (with a tie) in reining to go along with a head-to-head draw in flat.
Audrey Morris improved to 2-0 on the young season in fences as the senior from Flower Mound, Texas scored 80 points in a commanding 12.5-point victory. Kathleen DeGenova also pieced together a dominant win as her 78.5 points were 20.5 points better than her competitor. Caroline Krier's 73-point effort in her season debut was also good enough for a 15.5-point margin of victory. Kate Mills' team-high 81 tied her opponent while Averey Pritchard (76.5) also represented the Skyhawks today.
In horsemanship, Ava Newsom put the finishing touches on an unbeaten opening weekend with a team-best 75.25 for her second win in as many days. Olivia Wynn (73) bested her head-to-head opponent by seven points while Ava Jo Glenn's 74.25 points tied her competitor. Ruby Gunderson and Annie Batsche (collegiate debut) closed out the scoring with 73.25 and 68.25 points, respectively.
Elise Mason gave UT Martin a team point in reining, dialing up 69 points in the process. Claire Carpenter's co-team-high 70.75 points equaled her opponent. Also recording a team-high in scoring was Stevie Brown (70.75 points) while Payton Bundy (69) and Abby Tibbits (68.75) additionally earned starts today.
DeGenova capped off an unbeaten Jumping Seat day with a tie in flat, scoring 82.5 points. Shelby Davis managed a team-best 84 points and was followed by Mills (82), Payton Lussen (80.5) and Lydia Jordan (74).
The Skyhawks will take an extended break before returning to action later this month, traveling to Brookings, SD to take on ECAC rivals South Dakota State (Oct. 30) and Minnesota-Crookston (Oct. 31).
