
UT MARTIN SOFTBALL PREPARES FOR REGIONAL MATCHUP AT SOUTHERN ILLINOIS ON WEDNESDAY

The University of Tennessee at Martin softball team will take a break from Ohio Valley Conference play with a midweek matchup at regional rival Southern Illinois on Wednesday, March 27. First pitch from Charlotte West Stadium is scheduled for 4 p.m.
The Skyhawks (21-11) are looking to wrap up a strong six-game road trip in which the squad has gone 4-1 to this point – including wins over Evansville, Belmont and Tennessee State last week. Having won 11 of their last 12 contests, the Skyhawks have posted a .314 batting average over the span while recording a 2.16 ERA as a pitching staff.
UT Martin in led offensively by the play of sophomore Paige Clark who ranks fifth in the OVC with a .419 batting average while tallying five extra base hits, 15 RBIs and a league-leading 20 stolen bases – which also ranks 22nd nationally. The senior pair of Alli Fulcher (.289) and Gracyn McBride (.286) pace the squad in the power categories with five home runs each and 43 combined RBIs out of the middle of the order.
All four pitchers have tallied five victories on the season, led by freshman Lexi Ray with a 6-4 mark and a 3.22 ERA. Fellow freshman Erin Gallagher (5-1) paces the team with a 1.83 ERA in 53.2 innings of work.
Southern Illinois (17-9) has won four straight heading into the matchup. Jenny Jansen paces the Salukis with a .390 batting average while tallying 11 extra base hits and 19 RBIs. Ashley Wood ranks second with a .372 batting average, six home runs and 30 RBIs. The Saluki pitching staff is led by Brianna Jones with a 13-6 mark and 2.01 ERA in 101 innings of work.
Wednesday's matchup marks the 22nd meeting between the two programs with Southern Illinois holding a 15-6 series advantage. The Salukis have won three straight in the series while the Skyhawks are looking to notch their first road victory since 2010.
