MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin baseball team puts its three-game winning streak on the line as it welcomes Ohio Valley Conference foe Belmont to the friendly confines of Skyhawk Field this weekend. After a month of action, UT Martin finally returns home for a three-game series against the Bruins beginning on Friday, March 15 with first pitch slated for 4 p.m.
The Skyhawks are coming off of a weekend in which they took the series against OVC rival Southeast Missouri with a pair of shutouts being the tipping points. UT Martin also played Alabama A&M on Tuesday as they produced a 12-3 rout of the Bulldogs.
UT Martin (7-9) is led offensively by Casey Harford as his .377 batting average paces the club. He has belted a pair of doubles and plated eight teammates on the season while also swiping one base. Jordan Stoner is sporting a .313 batting clip and leads the team in two-baggers (four) and RBIs (nine) while having stolen two bases so far on the year. Sean Dixson is coming off of a 4-for-5 performance against Alabama A&M where he rapped out a triple and racked up two RBIs.
Right-handed pitcher Winston Cannon (1-3, 4.18) will get the call on Friday night. The Cookeville, Tenn. native has rung up 22 opposing batters in 23.2 innings pitched on the season. Southpaw Sam Folks (3-0, 2.39 ERA) looks to get the starting nod in the Saturday matchup. He paces the squad in innings pitched (26.1) and victories (three) and has sat down 14 batsmen via the punchout. Righty David Hussey (1-2, 6.75 ERA) will start in the Sunday matinee. He is coming off a 6.1-inning outing against Southeast Missouri where he did not allow a run. Not to be misled, Hussey has been a solid arm for the Skyhawks as his only earned-run outings came at Southeastern Conference opponents No. 10 Ole Miss and No. 15 Auburn. Nick Wohlbold (0-0, 0.00 ERA) has secured the closer role for the Skyhawks as he has notched four saves in as many weekends.
Belmont (7-9) is led by Zach Ehrhart (.303 batting average and 12 RBIs) while Chandler Adkins (.267 batting average and 10 RBIs) has also been a key contributor. Jackson Campbell (.204 batting average, three home runs and 13 RBIs) paces the squad in both the long ball and run production while also legging out three doubles and two three-baggers. Logan Jarvis and Adkins have been given the green light the most of any Bruins as both have swiped four bases on the season.
Righty Casey Queener (1-0, 2.92 ERA) is a candidate for the Friday night start. He has accumulated 39 strikeouts in just 24.2 innings pitched this year. Reigning OVC Pitcher of the Week Joshua South (2-1, 2.25 ERA) could get the nod on Saturday. He has fanned 19 batsmen in his 20 innings logged on the season. Right-hander Korey Bell (0-1, 4.60 ERA) is an option for the Sunday start. He has tossed 15.2 innings and rung up 11 batters for 22nd-year head coach Dave Jarvis.
