UT MARTIN VOLLEYBALL CLOSES OUT HOME SLATE THIS WEEKEND; SENIOR NIGHT SET FOR FRIDAY

MARTIN, Tenn. – Two final home volleyball matches for the University of Tennessee at Martin are on tap this weekend, as the Skyhawks will take on Austin Peay at 6 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 8 before hosting Murray State at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 9.
Friday will serve as Senior Night for UT Martin as Hannah Phillips and Gintare Mackeviciute are set to be honored for their career contributions during a pregame ceremony. Phillips has played in 96 career matches over her four-year Skyhawk career, dialing up 579 kills, 354 digs, 136 blocks and 33 service aces. Hailing from Orient, Ohio, she became the first UT Martin player since 2002 to earn All-Ohio Valley Conference second team honors last season. Mackeviciute has compiled 440 kills and 176 blocks in two years at UT Martin, playing in 52 total matches. The Jonava, Lithuania native currently ranks fourth in school history with a .300 attack percentage and eighth with a 0.90 blocks per set average.
The Skyhawks (10-17, 6-6) enter this weekend in a three-way tie for sixth place in the Ohio Valley Conference standings. They are one match behind Friday's opponent Austin Peay for fifth-place with four regular season matches remaining.
UT Martin split its first two results of this four-match homestand, falling in five sets to co-league leader Southeast Missouri (25-22, 21-25, 25-22, 12-25, 13-15) before bouncing back to defeat Tennessee Tech in four sets (20-25, 25-15, 25-15, 25-16). Mackeviciute (3.56 kills per set on a .404 hitting percentage) and Kenzie Hinshaw (10.56 assists per set) paced the Skyhawk offense while Lucy Kaufman (3.67 digs per set – including a career-best 20 scoops against Southeast Missouri) shored up UT Martin defensively.
Justine Walker's 119 blocks ranks 15th in NCAA Division I volleyball while her 1.20 blocks per set average rank atop the OVC. Mackeviciute (.308 attack percentage) and Hinshaw (8.90 assists per set) each rank sixth in the conference in their respective statistical categories. Mackeviciute's .381 hitting percentage in conference play is the second-highest mark in the league while Logan Wallick's 3.20 kills per set against OVC opposition ranks eighth.
Austin Peay (9-17, 7-5 OVC) is coming off a home weekend sweep of Eastern Illinois (3-1; 25-18, 25-21, 20-25, 25-22) and SIUE (3-2; 25-22, 21-25, 23-25, 25-16, 15-9). Ginny Gerig Busse was responsible for 50 digs (5.56 per set) in those matches, including 27 digs on Saturday against SIUE. The Governors also received a major lift offensively from Jenna Panning, who shattered her previous career-high with 21 kills on a .341 attack percentage in the win over SIUE. Gerig Busse's average of 5.67 digs in league play is the best mark in the league as Austin Peay leads the OVC in digs per set (17.98) against conference opponents.
Murray State (15-9, 9-3 OVC) is riding a three-match winning streak into this week, including a home sweep over SIUE (3-1; 27-25, 25-20, 19-25, 25-19) and Eastern Illinois (3-0; 25-16, 25-23, 25-15). Rachel Giustino nabbed OVC Offensive Player of the Week honors for the fifth time this season, becoming the program's all-time kills leader after averaging 6.86 kills per set on a .415 hitting percentage. The senior from Algonquin, Ill. ranks in the top-five nationally in total kills (472, second) and points (512.5, third). Callie Anderton divvied out 12.29 assists per set for a Racer offense that hit .269 last week for a Murray State squad that tops the OVC in assists (13.76 per set) in league play.
