LENGTHY HOMESTAND CONTINUES FOR UT MARTIN THIS WEEKEND WITH PAIR OF OVC VOLLEYBALL SHOWDOWNS

MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin volleyball team hosts two Ohio Valley Conference rivals this weekend, taking on Eastern Kentucky at 5 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 18 and Morehead State at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 19 at Skyhawk Fieldhouse.
UT Martin holds a 13-10 all-time home record against Eastern Kentucky, winning seven of its last nine home matches against the Colonels. The Skyhawks have won two out of their last three decisions against Morehead State, although the Eagles did claim a four-set win in last season's matchup in Morehead.
UT Martin (6-14, 2-4 OVC) split the first two matches of its season-long five-match homestand last weekend, falling in three sets to SIUE (23-25, 16-25, 17-25) before collecting its first sweep of the season against Eastern Illinois (25-20, 25-16, 25-17). The Skyhawks hit a season-best .360 as a team in the victory over Eastern Illinois on Saturday, displaying a balanced offense that included six players with between six and nine kills apiece.
Logan Wallick led UT Martin offensively last week, slamming down 21 kills (3.50 per set) on a .226 hitting percentage. She had a match-high 12 kills on Friday against SIUE and equaled a team-high with nine kills during Saturday's victory against the Panthers.
Junior setter Kenzie Hinshaw also had a good all-around weekend, tallying seven kills, 54 assists (9.00 per set) and a team-high 18 digs (3.00 per set). Her best performance came in Saturday's win as she tallied six kills (on a .500 hitting percentage) in addition to match-highs of 30 assists and nine digs.
On the season, Gintare Mackeviciute leads the Skyhawks with 156 kills (2.17 per set) while also ranking third in the OVC with a .369 attack percentage in league play. Hinshaw issues 8.26 assists per set (sixth-best mark in the OVC) and also tops the squad with 17 service aces. Defensively, Jamie Rys' 3.48 digs per set average lead the way while Justine Walker's 92 blocks (1.26 per set) rank 13th nationally and first in the OVC.
Eastern Kentucky, who leads the league with 16.84 digs per set, enters the weekend with a 7-13 overall record and a 2-4 mark in conference play. The Colonels split last week, dropping a three-set road decision at Morehead State (18-25, 22-25, 15-25) before earning a big home win over Murray State in five sets (24-26, 25-19, 26-24, 20-25, 21-19). Freshman Abby Noll claimed her second OVC Newcomer of the Week accolade of the season after piling up 41 kills (5.12 per set) on a .277 hitting percentage. She produced her ninth double-double of the season with a career-high 29 kills and 18 digs in the victory over Murray State.
Morehead State is tied with Jacksonville State for first place in the OVC standings after an undefeated week that included the aforementioned 3-0 win over Eastern Kentucky and a four-set home victory over Austin Peay (25-20, 21-25, 25-14, 25-20). Mia Swearingen captured OVC Defensive Player of the Week honors after swatting away 11 blocks (1.57 per set) – eight of which came in the win against Austin Peay. Reigning OVC Player of the Year Olivia Lohmeier, who ranks fourth in the country with 343 kills, averaged 4.43 kills per set last week while also chalking up her 1,000th career kill last night in a 3-1 loss at West Virginia.
