MURRAY, Ky. – Senior libero Brooke Gyori accounted for a remarkable 25 digs in three sets today but the University of Tennessee at Martin volleyball team fell by a 3-0 margin at Murray State (23-25, 19-25, 24-26).
          Â
This afternoon marked the 12th time this season that Gyori had eclipsed the 20-dig plateau. The senior out of Oregon, Ohio nabbed 12 scoops in the first set, three in the middle set and 10 in the final stanza.
          Â
Megan Fair led the Skyhawks (12-14, 5-7 Ohio Valley Conference) with eight kills while pitching in 19 digs. Kenzie Hinshaw handed out 24 assists while Gintare Mackeviciute and Hannah Phillips each led the way with a match-high four blocks apiece against a Murray State squad (15-9) who won its ninth straight match.
          Â
The opening set was tight, as it featured 11 ties and seven lead changes. Mackeviciute accounted for a pair of early kills before Jamie Rys tallied two kills during a 5-2 run that provided UT Martin with a 14-13 advantage. Murray State scored five of the next six points and eventually led by five points (23-18) before the Skyhawks generated five unanswered points to even the score at 23-all. However, UT Martin committed back-to-back attack errors and the Racers took a 1-0 lead in the match. Gyori's 12 digs were part of a 30-dig attack for the Skyhawks in the opening set.
          Â
Fair provided a pair of kills as UT Martin led 8-6 to start off the second stanza. Murray State reeled off a 6-0 run before a Jessica Reynolds kill and a pair of Racer attack errors trimmed the Skyhawk deficit to 13-11. Murray State later generated a 6-1 run but a Rys kill and a Justine Walker service ace followed as UT Martin pulled back within five points on two different occasions. However, the Skyhawks' comeback attempt came up short as the Racers took a 2-0 lead. Fair's four kills in the second set ranked as a team-high for UT Martin.
          Â
Murray State opened the third set on a 6-1 run and eventually stretched its lead out to 14-7. The Skyhawks then registered seven of the next eight points as Mackeviciute and Addison Conley each had kills to help whittle UT Martin's deficit to 15-14. After the Racers expanded their advantage out to five points (22-17), the Skyhawks once again rallied as Phillips, Walker, Conley and Hinshaw all posted kills to even the score at 23-all. The score remained even at 24-24 before Murray State took the final two points to complete the win. Hinshaw played well in the third set, handing out 10 assists to aid UT Martin in its near-comeback.
          Â
The Skyhawks return home for their next three matches, beginning a matchup against Eastern Illinois at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 2 before playing host to SIUEÂ for Senior Day at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 3. UT Martin seniors Gyori and Fair will be recognized for their career accomplishments in a pregame ceremony before the match on Saturday.
